Set and forget or target?

Best NEW inexpensive set and forget imho are the burris FFII and up.

Target scopes are not my forte but i hear great things about SWFA. I have a couple i use as set and forget and they have been flawless.

I should have given more detail.

It will be for hunting only, mounted on a .270 winchester

Also look at Leupold,Meopta and Vortex read reviews on all then decide.

PERSONALY...I would avoid the Leupold and Vortex all together. Meopta is great...but its slim pickings in the OPs price range.

I can't give much advice about the new market because I can't remember the the last time I bought a new scope.

I usually grab any Nikon Monarch UCC 3-9x40 I see in the $175 range. Same with any Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 I find in the $275-300 range. Both are out there if you have a little patience.

The Philippine Nikons are great I agree. Only concern for me is that they are out of the gun biz so if something fails your up a creek .

Burris FF 11 should get it done.
Mine showed up today from the mail person. Looks okay, haven't done anything with it yet.

I have 2 of these and think they are a very good scope for the money.

Historically scopes that have worn the Weaver name were a solid value. I haven't had my hands on one of these, but a few have and say they are great. At the upper end of your budget.

Neither are Chinese.

Fixed power SWFA if you like a big fat dialer, FFII for set and forget.

Both are quite proven.

The FF IIs are beyond decent; good practical hunting scopes at a great price. Same applies to the E1s. If I could find one with a conventional duplex or the older ballistic plex rather than the newer versions, I’d be willing to pay extra for it, but I have and use both.

There’s still a place for set and forget scopes. There’s a bunch who bemoan the dearth of light fixed powers, but you can set these to whatever power you crave and forget it’s a variable, and pay very little size and weight penalty.

Oh I saw that, but wasn’t in the market then, or now. Have too many idle scopes as it is, and before you say it, no room for more rifles to stick them to!

Think Pappy is right (unless you can trust Optics Planet to actually HAVE the danged thing). Most of the E1’s out there have the “Ballistic Plex E1” (small etched) reticle, NOT the “Ballistic Plex” (spans entire view, non-etched, NON “E1”) reticle.

I’ve got one of the “E1” reticles. Too damn small...

Got Droptines, E1’s, and II’s with the “normal” ballistic plex, as well, and they are FINE for hunting.

Burris effed up with the “Ballistic Plex E1” reticle. Should’ve made it bigger, or stuck with normal “Ballistic Plex”. They also should’ve had the decency to come up with a different name, to avoid confusion. Stupid marketing move...
