Has anybody used the Hornady #2230 .224 45 grain Hornet bullet in the 223, specifically with a 9 twist or faster barrel?
Should make a decent explosive bullet if the jacket would hold up.
The last time that bear ate a lawyer he had the runs for 33 days!

A buddy of mine uses those as the only bullet that gives complete separation into two pieces of a ground squirrel repeatedly. He was shooting them out of a Ruger Mark II 223 rifle.
I never tried them personally.

I wonder if you would have to run it slower than normal. It's made for the Hornet isn't it? I have loaded a lot of those in a 223 running Blue Dot for powder.... 10 grains of Blue Dot, like 2400 fps or so... equal to a 22 Hornet... They were explosive on ground squirrels...

I wonder if you would have to run it slower than normal. It's made for the Hornet isn't it? Yes. I know of 1 guy running em in a 14 twist 222. Thinking it's the tighter twist that may make em turn loose.

Tried them in a 22.250 a few years back. Above 3500 fps they would come apart.

I think Seafire and 10 gauge are right. Slow them down and run them at Hornet speeds. They will work well and won't come apart.

I used then in a 1 in 9 twist Model Seven pushed to 3100fps no problems. In my rifle I never found a load that shot better than just under an inch.
