Who makes the best quality and reliable Torx scope and scope base screws?

I haven't had any issues with Torx screws supplied by the various ring and base manufacturers.

I will say sharp Torx bits are important so not to round out the heads.

Snap-On and Matco bits are all I use for Torx.

It seems like there would be a consensus on the best quality trouble-free scope mounting and ring screws beside the ones that come with the products.

What do custom builders use when they make their own scope mounting components?

I like DNZ best they use full size normal cap screws. Flat on the underside and larger than torx. Too big to use on an un-modified base, so just buy the DNZ.

The Torx provided with the rings or bases are best for me.

Why do you ask, what problem have you encountered that you're attempting to remedy?

The move to Torx heads has largely ended "stripped" screw-heads whether it's for bases or ring-caps. You could try to find some Aviation fasteners that cross-referenced to your needs.

I have only used those that came in kits/assortments from Brownell's and Leupold. I prefer the Leupold torx screws to those that I bought from Brownell's.

Horse1, I am upgrading all of the scope ring and scope based screws on my rifles to Torx Head and was just seeing if there is a consensus on top a maker. Seems as if there is not much focus on fastener quality which leads me to believe it is not so much an issue otherwise there would be a ton of squawkers like on the Talley Ring thread.

I figured Id go to Lowe's if I ever needed a random screw for a base or ring. That or a specialty fastener place. I figure it will cost half of what you paid for the whole set. LOL

I have Talley bases and rings, no issues with them. I use a Snap On tools.

Spending 10x what other people spend and bragging about it is a feature not a bug around here. I'm waiting for someone to say they have a machinist make their screws at a cost of $25 each, then Topper could one up him with custom metallurgy.

You're not going to find a #6 screw with 48 threads per inch at Lowes nor a #8 screw with 40 threads per inch.

I agree with most of what you said, but have broken several Snap-On Torx drivers both Tee handle as well as the small screwdriver types. Good thing is they replace them for free but it can be a pain to get the broken tip out of the screw head.
I don't know if they had a bad batch with the heat treat or not but I have not broken any form my last swap out.
I would have to look at the brand but I think my other set is Bondus and they have been good.

Almost all current manufactured scope rings and bases come with Torx screws. If you have bases and rings that are old enough to have slotted or allen head screws - chances are the manufactures of those bases and rings have upgraded to Torx fasteners.

I would wager that if you called the manufactuer that they would send you the upgaded Torx screws of the proper length at no charge.

I have seen several 6-48 base screws with the heads snapped off thru the years. I'm not sure it makes much difference but If you want peace of mind Brownells sells a kit to upgrade base screws to 8-40. Many custom gunmakers do this on their rifles especially heavy kickers. Tally, Leupold, and others make & sell bases that are made to use w 8-40 screws. Several places sell assorted Torx head screws. If you follow manufacturers torq specs most ring and base sets made nowadays are pretty sturdy. My 2 personal favorite s are Tally QD steel mounts w 8-40 base screws and Leupold Mark 4. Both are rock solid.

My local hardware store has a chest w maybe 14 small drawers of gun screws.

Priced such....proly money ahead to just order a Brownells kit.

The screws that came with my Vortex rings take a #25 Torx bit and they're all the same size, base and rings. Plus they throw in a couple spares. I think the larger #25 Torx screws with the deeper slots will be less likely to strip out. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1020789393?pid=748317

Check with Badger or TPS. Both sell high quality torx screws in small sets.

Have been very satisfied with both Vortex and Talley. I also reed the instructions before I install a new set each time. Hahaha I figure if I install and Torque correctly the first time, Maybe I will avoid the dreaded second go around. YMMV
