Should a 63 FW have the usual aluminum butt plate or the black plastic? I know FW's had aluminum but in 63 were they using up left over parts?

Plastic. Aluminum would have been long gone by ‘63. Transition occurred 4-5 years before that, depending on when in ‘63 the gun was made.

Excellent. Thank you. I started second guessing myself as the black plastic LOOKED right but just couldn't remember.

There sure is a noticeable difference in the craftsmanship of a 63 and a 53!

Same notable difference in craftmanship when comparing a ‘53 and ‘43.
