I dusted off the pre64 m70 358 and loaded up some shells and took off to the range. Most went off but several had dented primers but didn't fire. IIRC this was a problem with this caliber from the beginning. Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone got a solution?

The pre 64 model 70 bolt is super easy to dis & re assemble. Worth a look.
I wouldn't dismiss a possible primer problem either.
I have a pre 64 model 70, but not in that chambering.

My pre-64 358 Win has zero issues firing though it is a custom.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

If they were reloads with Winchester WLP primers there was a recall for FTF a while ago. I experienced this and Winchester reimbursed me for the primers. If this isn't the cause I'd disassemble the bolt, clean/lube and reassemble. Never heard of FTF problems in .358 M/70's, I owned one many years ago and had no problems.

They were reloads with CCI primers. 3 of 12 failed to fire. I'll dissemble the bolt clean and lube it then try again.
