1st Time since 92, deployments, overseas assignments.
Aint gonna pan out for me.
Finger F u c king around with the "BobBrown" musketeer puppeteers Saturday evening.
Oiling down the 835 for upcoming rain.
Break it down/ field strip to oil it up enough to leave finger prints and slippery coat on moving parts.
Discover a hairline crack in the receiver about 3/4" long.
Cerracoat in the barrel channel on receiver shows a crack in the metal
Wasnt their before I got it cerracoated .
I knew this gun when slumlord had it
Worked on polishing the barrel
Got it from slumlord last spring.
I know I would have noticed a oil line darked coloed crack from seepage into it.

Took off my rhino .670 choke
Put in a SSX .670 choke.
Left the adjustable rifle sights on it.
The sims pad.

Went to the gun show yesterday.
Sold it for 275.
Fully disclosed and broke down the gun and showed the crack to a older guy who bought it.
Told him barrel has had forcing cone and barrel polished.
Gave him 9 grand slam shells
The Box of Browning TSS shells i had left
2 hevi 13 # 7,s
The gun case.
We talked about receivers for em
He said he can find another receiver for around 75 to 100 looking around and putting out the word thru his friends.

I dont know if my cerracoat guy dropped the receiver and thought nothing of it and sprayed it and cooked it.
And me running shells thru it patterning it caused it to crack and then I noticed it saturday night.
Just speculation on my part..

Im not gonna mention it to him.
Got a good customer relationship with him.
Dont wanna put doubt into a good thing with the best cerracoat guy around here.

I'm just gonna get a new 935 22" or 24"
Go semi auto.
Put in the rhino choke
Buy a new set of sights
Do the wally world bag and fishing sinker deal in the butt stock and limbsaver pad.
Polish the forcing cone and barrel.

Aint got time to set one up how I want it.
And doing shellology experiments with one right now.

I'm done for this year turkey hunting..

Gonna do some painting around the house outside.
Do the trim painting inside the house.
Get a window outfit over to install 12 new upstairs windows
Get a gutter outfit over here.
Was planning on doing all this after Turkey season.
Back burner projects
Fugg it....
Get started on it while its still kinda cool outside

But I did buy something I can do in chunks of spare time till spring squirrel season from selling the shotgun.

I’ve not had a turkey walk away from a 12 ga, 2.75” with #5 or #6 shot. And that’s lead not the fancy expensive stuff.

Clip one coil off the accutrigger spring.

Polish the sear surfaces.

Thinking of doing the whack a mole toothbrush camo job on the stock also now that I am confident in the rattle can results of that from my trial and error stuff earlier this year.

Stuff about 15 oz of sinkers with wally world bags into the butt.
πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ greatly improves balance from excessive muzzle heavy forward feel.
Also reduces inadvertent slight muzzle dip downward off bench and bags from your shoulder at times by geting some more weight onto your rear bag.
Put a limbsaver pad on it, not for recoil.
But to increase LOP only.

I have set up 2 of these before.
1 bull barrel like this and another with a fluted bull barrel

Savage MK II bull barrels will shoot very accurately.
Then tree rat head shots and watching gravity do its thing.

Any old shotgun will kill a bird. Pick one up cheap, throw some decent 3" shells in it and get to hunting! Turkey season is way too important to give up so easily!

I've got one from the 1960's {model 500} that's still going strong and has never malfunctioned. Another from the 90's the same and I've shot/hunted the piss out of it. Has 21 bucks and I don't know how many turkeys/ducks/geese/rabbits/grouse/pheasants/ to it's credit.

I made the guy fully aware of the crack.

I dont know how in the fugg it happened.
Just speculating .....

But I have owned 8 or 9 835,s over the years.
All set up the same.

Im just gonna go the 935 semi auto route.

Time for a change.

Had a 28" 24" combo 935 4 or 5 yrs ago
Lnib from a pawnshop.
Used it for dove for 1 year.
Never set it up for turkey with the 24.
Sent it down the road...
Like dozens upon dozens of other guns since I was 16.

Take some pics with him up their of some intersting stuff.
Send him on his way to BGG up in Montana later this week.

Gotta head to midsouth.
See if steve can pull up my purchase record and find the item # for that limbsaver pad.
If not he will find the one that fits for me.
I got the stupid plastic pad of the MK II he can match up size and hole spacing with.

I brought the NWT federation 835 the first year they came out. The thing is a turkey killing machine. I got a SBE2 (yeah I know guys hate on β€˜em but who cares I shoot a 270 too) and just love the thing. I’d never not own a semi now.

Shoot β€˜em in the face they don’t know or care what you shot them with...

Thats another small factor thrown into it also.
Probably be spending about 4 to 6 k over the next 30 or so days doing some home stuff.
Schitt I was gonna put off till after the season and hotter weather.

Fugg it ...
Start Getting it done now.

Go tree rat hunting in mid may.
Kill some of them acorn eating pricks off.
Work on a few deer hunting trails in some knarly areas to get into.

Tree rat hunting and trail access wasnt in the plan after turkey season.
The house projects and painting were.

Glad your 835 didn't come apart on you. I've been kicking a 935 around as well. The top tang safety helps with the lefty problem, and Mossys seem to shoot more like my old Remington 11-87 SP than a couple others I've tried.

Too bad about your season, I'm guessing you'll still find a way to make stubbs great. Go blast some tree rats.

I got a pristine 930 dove gun .
Unlike any other on the planet.
Did alot of work on the Black walnut recontouring the wood, refinishing the stock.
Modifying the factory pad to actually get it to absorb more recoil.

Homie aint fugging scratching and marring that gun up out T bird hunting.

People are surprised looking at it and asking what it is.
Then when they find out it's a 930.
They are like WTF???

Guys ...
I really appreciate the offers from fellow members via pm around the area to lend me use of their tutkey guns.

I need to decline.

Im just to fugging OCD and a perfectionist to use a another person's firearm to hunt with.
And the offers of use guns are topnotch guns set up properly.

And I understand the I wouldnt loan a gun for use if I wouldnt use it myself way of thinking.

You guys that have sent me offers of useage .
I am honored by your offers.

But I must decline.
It is how I am.
Just my belief system on certain things, and in no way shape or form a insult or slight on any of you guys or your equipment at all.

Slumlord knows how I am about firearms and how my mind works.

I got the .22 as a spare time occupier in between home stuff I put on the back burners.
It is what it is.

I will kill some squirrels after the home stuff starts get going.
Go look at exterior paints in the next day or so.
Knock out outside painting in this cooler time window now.

Stubbs getting an all around edumacation.

Rene can't get him in the turkey woods, that's OK. He'll get lessons in house painting and such no doubt.

The Stubbster already learnt about cinnamon rolls and such.
