Next time something mechanically significant breaks on the truck, just do what most Dodge douches do, Slap on another light bar, Cummins decal, or maybe a new set show-boy balloon tires with douche-rims.

A buddy of mine has something like 250k on his 7-8yr old Ram 5.7L. He said it's been one of the most trouble-free trucks he's had. I'm still not a Dodge man, but it sounds like they have their trucks figured out a lot better than they did in the 80's and 90's.

I doubt it. It would only work if the cruise had already been set prior to the gas pedal breaking off. Plus, cruise only goes so slow, and I’m not sure it will engage the resume function from a standing stop.

My son’s 09 Ram 1500 I gave him has 170K on it. It’s us stupid crap break on it. The wiring harness for the 4 WD went bad. Speed sensors wire got cut from something he hit and it has them down codes off and on since that got fixed. The wiring harnes though took the Dodge dealer bringing in an engineer to figure that one out they claim. $700 late it was back on the road.

That's the major rub which won't allow me to buy a DODGE/CRYSLUR, as engines are much easier to fix/replace than the rest of the body/chassis/drivetrain combined.

Driven over 700k miles in Dodge/Ram trucks since '96. Been stranded one time with a failed ignition switch. I would say that's a pretty fair record.

Just had the motor blow up on my 2015 dodge 4500 work truck. Has the 6.4 hemi. Those motors run like great, till it dont. Got a new Jasper in it now and back at it again. Hope this one lasts.

Was told these motors have a known issue with the pushrods being at an extreme angle to the lifters, creating premature wear on camshaft, lifters, and pushrods. Mine started with what sounded like a lifter tap, then kept getting worse till the lifter tap went away completely. Then it would miss badly under throttle and check engine light would come on, then go back out. They said keep driving it...lol . Then boom!

The only vehicle I or my wife have ever sent down the road due to not knowing what would [bleep] the bed next was a Dodge. Granted, lemons come from all brands but she swore off Dodge. I happen to like the 3/4 ton & up Ram. More so the Cummins.

Had an 01, 03, 06, 12, and currently a 2018 Ram Cummins... never had a problem with any one of them until today... started the truck this morning and got the check engine light... scanned the codes and found I had a bad injector... off to the dealer for warranty repair...

Had a 2016 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 for a work truck... 130k miles and lost the cam... seems to be very common with those engines...

My only ram experience I have is with my dads 2011 2500 with the hemi 5.7. The motor was powerful, but the 545rfe died at something like 35-40k with no towing other than a tiny utility trailer. It also had a CEL for evap leaks that the dealer could never fix. It also rode insanely rough compared to my 3 2500 gm’s, even when loaded heavy. It was enough to convince me to stay away. The interior was nice and the styling was good...

I have an '08 with the Cummins and manual Transmission. The clutch started slipping at about 80k. The shop highly recommended going with a single mass flywheel. The dual mass has it's problems. I don't pretend to know what a dual mass really does but it certainly has it's distractors.

I had a 70 Dodge 3/4T,Gasser, 383, 4 sp. It was a pulling son of a gun,. I rebuilt the engine at 85K and sold it at about 120 K Great truck

After that 85 Ford,460, 4sp, 3/4T Dually. It kept nickel and dimeing me with rear axle seals, hydraulic clutch cable, oil leaks all thru the engine and transmission.Rear main seal was replaced twice in warranty . It got 8mpg empty and 3 mpg loaded. It vapor locked on every mountain pass until I put a 3rd electric fuel pump on it and an ice bucket fuel cooler. I sold it at 85K

My 98 Dodge Cummins. Crapped out the engine at 150K with a blown head gasket. Head warped, complete set of valves with valve job. New radiator,hoses, heater core, water pump because of all the oil sludge int the cooling system. Don't know why, but the turbo went out too.That all was $6K. .Before that,3 injector pumps at $1800 each. Lift pump replaced with a FASS system that was replaced once. New clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, hydraulic clutch actuator, $2K. Complete rebuild of After Market Compression brake. New steering tracking bar, tie rod ends. Replaced accelerator module. I think I had more in repairs than I paid new.

I drive a 2019 Chevy 2500HD Duramax now. It has15k on it now. I will see how that goes. I bought the extended Platimum Warranty on it at purchase. It cost the same as one injector pump replacement.

I took a chance on a Ram with the Cummins. At 63,000 miles it still has not had a problem of any kind. It's a 2018 and was $7000 cheaper than the Chevy Duramax. I did buy the extended warranty just in case.

Would not hurt my feelings if they did. Anything to stop the failures would suit me.I think with ANY diesel you are going to go thru an injector pump and injectors. The pump or six injectors failing is about the same price as the warranty.

They are like the rest of em, get a good one and you got a good one. Get a POS and it seems to always be a POS.

My 2015 F-350 seems to be a real pile of schitt. Very unimpressed.

About $7k in repairs between 70k miles and 125k.

Gasser too, hate to think what it would be if it were diesel.

Doesn't scare me completely off from looking at Ford when time for another but makes me a bit leary. Been around too many pretty good Fords.

I don't even have $2k in parts on my 2006 Silverado with 220k on it.

Cats excluded and labor is on me.


Never had a Ram. Bud has had em for the last 10 years but never puts over 30-40k on em before trading them. Tries bragging them up to me.

I had a 2000 gas, good luck with it, traded in on a 2004 diesel, it has 206,000, rebuilt the front end, drive on rough roads, got a 2018, no problems with it at 16,000 miles. I have a 89 jeep I bought new, it’s been good.

It's an illusion to think any brand is problem free, as much as they cost these days they should come with a 100,000 fix it free warranty but it is what it is.
Ram is light years ahead of what they were 20 years ago regardless of who owns the company.

I still have my old 2000 Cummins and it still gets the chores done, its time to upgrade but it will be another Cummins in the Ram wrapper, I'm just not fond of the thought of working on the other 2 when you cant even see the ground with the hood open.

Not a truck story, but had a Chrysler 300M for awhile. Fun car to drive, but the engine spun a bearing at 80K miles. Engine swap and $4000 later, the wife got the Chrysler in the divorce. One of the best examples of Karma to ever happen was the transaxle failure. Daddy paid for that R&R. Following the replacement, she backed out into traffic and some guy in a pickup hit it square on the rear wheel, totaling the car. She hadn't renewed the insurance policy. You know...stupid ex- husband should pay for things like that...

I had talked to him Monday and told him about my tranny taking a dump. He called me today and called me a dick for jinxing him😂

I'm thinking about buying another house. There's a 2013 Dodge 1500 in the garage, that comes with the deal, with low miles and they think that is a selling point. I see it as problems...

I had an 06 Megacab 5.9 manual that needed nothing in 225K miles other than U-Joints. I did upgrade the clutch after I added some power, the next was a 2014 Megacab with a 6.7 manual that I upgraded the clutch in after deleting it and adding power, that truck also needed a turbo actuator at 200K, I traded that truck in on a 2020 HO with the Aisin last year. So for the 2020 is dead stock with 40K miles on it so far and it's so good as is I don't plan on doing much else than driving it. I have pulled a 24ft GN with a 45HP tractor and attachments, a 20ft enclosed and a 42ft toy hauler around with all of them. I always hear about the bad ones and believe they are out there, but I am very impressed with them as working/pulling trucks. Even stock they all would get down the road much faster than I'd feel comfortable towing.

Still driving a 2001 RAM1500, rebuilt the transmission, just bought my 5th SET of Bridgestone Duelers.............

Truck has 330,000 miles, 5.2L gas..........

It was a 'bare bones' model $16,995.... I think it's likely worth $4500 today, I got my moneys' worth....

spotshooter: I bought myself a new Dodge Cummins diesel 4x4 extended cab 5 speed standard transmission truck back in 1996 - it has worked virtually flawlessly ever since.
NOT ONE mechanical problem of any kind!
I would buy another in a minute.
SUPER dependable, gets great mileage 22 - 23 MPG and has torque to spare.
I have 140,000 miles on it and my Elk Hunting partner has a 1994 Dodge Cummins diesel that has 360,000 miles and never once had a wrench to his engine!
Any vehicle can have a glitch or a "broken part" - I am NOT saying Dodge trucks are flawless but I have owned MANY other trucks since my first back in 1968 and the Dodge proves up wonderfully to me.
Blanket condemnations seldom have merit - I have found.

funny how folks experiences with trucks differ. me, excellent luck with 94 f150, 02, 04 & 05 silverado and my current 15 f250. the 05 ram 1500 was the biggest POS i ever owned, including '70's cars. it was ready for the junk yard by 2014 with less than 100k on it. unreal how it fell apart, body, tranny, electrical, etc.

Had my dodge transition built fo my 02
Dodge 2 years ago. I have only put about 3 k miles on it
It been back to the shop 3 times. Seems the engendering on the dodge tranny is really suspect on o rigs and
Seals and such it just stops shifting.
2 years and still haven’t been able to trust this truck
No before you say it’s the tranny guys fault. Not the case
He has built several Chevy trannys for my son and I
And always flawless.

Dodge trucks are pretty decent but they have their issues just like any other brand. I've owned 2, an 04 and currently own a 2010 which has the 5.7 Hemi and had I known about the exhaust manifold bolts breaking on these truck as being an issue I might have passed on it. And Dodge/Ram still hasn't been able to figure out how to fix it as their newer trucks are just as bad.

My dodge update
After taking it to a 3 rd respected tranny mechanic he claims it’s fixed. Seems the dodge engenders in there infante wisdom doesn let the torque converter pump at idle. Probbly for gas miladge sales
Gimik Causing oil starvation and heat build up causing transmission to fail
A sift kit to bump pressure and a kit to make it pump at idle.
If this doesn’t fix it I’m putting a Chevy 700 r4 in it

I was thinking that same thing.

I will say I have had two (06 and a 14) with manuals before I got the current 20 with the Aisin cause I never wanted to deal with their transmissions. The Aisin seems very well built. Just turned 45K miles on it, mostly towing between 25-35K pounds and it is definitely the strongest truck I have owned to date and the transmission and exhaust brake in Tow/Haul is really darned good. Wasn't sure how I would like the auto but so far, I am pretty happy.

Still chuggin along in my old '06 1 ton Cummins, 207 thousand, only times stranded were blowing two different #4 injector lines, guess they beefed em up, have had no issue with them for 5 years or so.

Man, that is a truck I wished I'd kept. Mine was a 5.9 Cummins with the 6 speed. I added a PacBrake and air bags to mine. What a pullin SOB it was. I had 238K on it when I traded it and it still ran and drove literally like it did when I picked it up with 2 miles on it.

I kept my 07 5.9 srw for a daily driver. For back and forth to work and running around it’s easier to get in places than my new cab and chassis. I’ve never had anything like the new truck out on the road though. Like beretzs said the brakes on them are amazing. Pretty wild towing over the divide and leave the cruise set going up and going off. Crazy to me but like I said I went from a 07 to a 2020. The 07 has been and still is a dandy as far as I’m concerned.

That 07 with the 5.9 is a darned gem. Might be worth as much in today’s market as when it was new. That is a helluva engine.

It’s served me well. It had 130k on it when I got it and had close to 250k now. The only things I can think of worth mentioning is I put in new injectors around 200k and a rear main seal. Even with the old 4 speed auto ive towed horses from south florida georgia western Montana Colorado Utah and it’s never missed a beat. I am pretty partial to the new one when we travel. It’s my first new truck and we couldn’t be happier with it.

You bet buddy, i'll repair oy old '06 for as long as i can, i had the Cummins exhaust brake installed on mine the day bought it new, great feature, a little shop time and a longer belt, simple addition, glad you guys are enjoying those new rigs.

I just serviced my 07 5.9 4x4 standard cab with rebuilt auto. 75k miles. Paint sucks. Bring $34,000.00 in $100 bills and I will sign the title. That is what I paid for the truck. You get the front winch mount, Canopy free. What a deal!

Buddy mentioned above is selling his as soon as it’s fixed. He bought an old beater to run for work.

It’ll probably take a schit on him too, but at least he isn’t making a payment on a $50k dollar truck he can’t drive😳

Had two Dodge half tons in the 70s and 80s. Between rust and mechanical issues, no wish to ever have another one. Had transmission failure on the '84 at less than 80,000 miles. Last straw for me.

Just when I thought they were improving, neighbor's son wound up with a '96 4x4 that ate the tranny within a year, then proceeded to have electrical issues.Warranty replaced tranny then failed. PA Lemon Law replacement, traded the new replacement truck on an F250, while it was still "whole".

Just talked to a guy I hadn't seen in some time, who had gotten a '14 RAM 4x4 the same year I got my Chebbie. 230,000 miles, on tranny number three. When he got it, was yapping at me about his 8 speed, when I only had a 6 speed. Turned out both trucks still got around 22 MPG highway. Only failure so far on my '14 Silverado, A/C condenser around 86,000 miles and seven years.

RAMs have gotten very popular around here, judging by the numbers I see on the road. And sitting along the road?

A cousin had a RAM 2500, 6.4. By 2018 the company took it back since they couldn't fix what was ever wrong with the motor. Gave him a 2018 (with the original payments) and he has already replaced the transmission under warranty in it. He is done with RAM.

My 2018 RAM diesel has been great. I have had offers to buy it, but there wouldn't be anything else to replace it with around here and no upgrade to speak of. If they would put auto 4 in them I would sell in a heart beat if I could afford the payments, but probably couldn't.

I have a 2012 4x4 2500HD 5.7 and it has been a fantastic truck. I have owned Chevy's and fords before and this truck has more power, better mileage and the fit and finish are great. By the way this is the first Dodge I have owned. When ever I decide to replace I will for sure look at the Rams again.

Bought a '97 4x4 Sport Truck ext cab 5.9 gasser brand new in '98. The ONLY truck I ever owned that I had ZERO issues with. But I only owned it for 40K miles or so. Got outta owning trucks for a spell and had a couple Jeeps. But bought a 2009 Silverado Z-71............ 180K and still going like new and not using oil. I have more repair money in the driver's door latch than anything else. So, I can't chirp any schidtt on a Bowtie.

Fords................. Owned a 2005 Expedition 5.4 4x4 for a couple years. I will never, NEVER, EVER own a piece of Ford garbage again.

I drive 3 , 1st 2500 diesel that will pull anything you want to hook up, and I get 19mpg unhooked. 2nd is Power Wagon, badass trk. For ranch, I pull a lot with it also, almost impossible to get stuck . 3rd Jeep Rubicon, same as PW , almost impossible to get stuck and stay stuck. I bought 5 in four years, never had any trouble with any of them. I have a Ford for feed truck, cows kick hell out of it , run on side’s trying to get feed of flatbed, doesn’t matter their tough, but also Ford ugly, that’s why I drive Dodge’s, Ford doesn’t go of Ranch.🤠🤠
