Other than it is ignoring a really goddam important factor. The government has been printing and handing out a lot of money lately in the form of stimulus checks and enhanced unemployment benefits.

The guy that lives next door has a 30 something son that runs a grill at a local place. He told me he can make more staying home right now with the current temporary unemployment programs. He doesnt care to sit at home with his dad 24/7 so he decided to to take a cut in pay and go back to work. I have heard that from several wait staff at places I eat. Employers needing to hire unskilled labor are competing with the government programs for workers.

I've been seeing the same thing here in Northern Michigan. FF closing early, not serving breakfast, or closing a couple of days a week. One of the local Subway restaurants has a sign for 14 bucks an hour and McDonald's is around 14-15.

It seems crazy. Heck, I was making 12.50/hour and running the plumbing and HVAC on a 7 building condo development less than 20 years ago.

The average fast food worker in ohio makes $9 hr. Managers make around $12 hr. Sounds like they should go to the local high school to do their recruiting.

Several guys are right on this one. Companies have decided to Just pay as little as they can and hire new people when the current ones get sick of no opportunity and low pay.

They also don't offer full time and prefer to have 12 people on the schedule when 8 would be enough...they're begging for hours and basically on call with no benefits or any reason to make it a career.

Then management gets put in place with no oversight and they pick their favorites and do whatever they want and create a toxic work environment on top of the scheduling issues.

But since covid, people flock in and spend like they're millionaires and it is Still going months later. My company for example, has all those above problems but hit a billion dollars in sales. Then sent emails out bragging about how awesome they are...missing the point that it took a pandemic and election and lockdown to create an environment wherein their horrible practices still didn't hinder sales.

Lots more businesses will fall once the stimulus is spent and people start expecting something for their dollar and jobs open up and a business HAS to treat employees well to compete.

Well....back in my day we kept everyone at 1 dollar an hour and gave them 30 hours a week!

That's what makes real men!

Its not just fast food places. We cant find CNC machinists to save our soul. We are in an extremely clean and climate controlled environment. I have a friend that manages a Temp employment agency. When I talked to them last week, they had 60 job openings and no applications to fill them. They are offering a $1k sign on bonus to boot. If you aren't working, its because you don't want to.

My cousin runs a decent sized company locally and has been studying how to get even better...he says what i described above is actually a philosophy a lot of places use. Its cheaper to use and abuse people and just go get another 9 buck an hour guy part time and no benefits, than to train and develop and pay a good wage.

They're unfortunately right, as customers will keep coming in due to needing/wanting the products and basically accepting the BS "service."

In addition, once people can't find jobs, the few manufacturing places can offer 40 hours and basically do whatever they want with employees due to being basically the only place you can get full time.

To be a kid and starting out right now...wow. I don't think i would want to be in that position in my area.

It all boils down to, how much are you willing to pay for a value meal? Great work rules and pay for employees at McDonalds is Switzerland.....and it's also 61.13% more expensive to buy a Big Mac meal. Thinking we are going to take it from upper management isn't going to work. The pay increase will come from the consumer. It used to be, when I was a kid, that FF workers were LEARNING how to work. Now it seems that it's a career job that needs benefits. Tells me we are turning into a socialist economy faster that we realize. Get ready.

The other thing here is that companies are refusing to fix broken components of their training and HR departments or train management to treat employees well. They look at the money coming in and pay bonuses and leave everything as is.

I left 2 jobs for this reason. Everyone is supposed to be miserable and just be thankful for their job regardless of the conditions. Management is still raking in the dollars so why should anything be changed? After all, we are geniuses...just look at the sales numbers!

When people finally catch on and stop spending like idiots, those companies will lay off or fire their employees and STILL miss the point.

Local rents have doubled in the last couple years, no wonder they can't get help at $10 and hour. Two incomes at $15 an hour is just scraping along here.

Same problem most everywhere.

Young people have lots of options for summer and after school work in today's market. Even though most on here like to say its a lack of willingness to work, I see lots of young people around who have it together and no problem finding good part-time work.

The gap that I see is entry level manufacturing-type jobs pay about the same as working fast-food or working in a store.

When my son was in machinist school, he found summer work paying $14 per hour. Many FF places around here pay $15 to start and have incentives to help pay tuition. It wasn't like my kid was grass-green with machining, yet many other places start trades people below FF workers. He changed jobs 3 times in one year. Each time getting paid a bit more and the work was better. Yet some companies complain people don't stick around long. Can you blame young people from moving on when they can better themselves?

So what changed?

The .gov started paying people more money to not work than to work. Trump started it with $600 per week on top of whatever the state unemployment was. $600 per week is $15.00 per hour for a 40-hour week.

Not to mention a moratorium on evictions for not paying rent and mortgage payments.

When all this "Covid stimulus" expires, there will be a hew and cry to extend it. The Democrats will extend it and soon the whole middle class will be on permanent welfare, until the economy collapses.

Stopping all this welfare stuff is the answer. It would also solve all of our race problems.

Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.

Democrats would burn this country to the ground, if they could rule over the ashes.
