I recently found a Marlin 39A. The wood is decent, but someone drilled and tapped the barrel for mounting a scope.
I would like to find a nice, original barrel to replace that with.
Please let me know what you have.
Thanks.

I am sure you know this, but some of the 39a's were drilled and tapped from the factory. If I have it right, I believe those were sold through Sears. They were drilled and tapped on the left hand side of the barrel in front of the receiver.

was going to mention the same thing, if it is an early version, 2 pairs of holes (4 total) on the left side just above the forend, might very well be factory. They did do that at one point.

Thanks guys! I did not know that, but that is exactly what I'm seeing. I guess maybe I just need to get better educated.

4 plug screws and you're home free. Apparently the former owner kept his scope.

The early scopes were skinny, 3/4 or 7/8.

Oddly enough, I just sold a 3/4 inch Weaver, but did not have the mounts.
