If I can't see it I can't hit it. I have a 2.5x-25x-42 March that I will put on my 309.

Only downside is NF has less eye relief from my understanding.

I think at that price point I’d look at tract as well

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I've never had an issue with ER on a Nightforce scope. I use several, including the SHV 5-20x56, NXS 5.5-22x56 and NXS 3.5-15x56. No issues with any of them.

I have both Nightforce NXS as well as the SHV. I also have a Tract Toric. From a glass perspective, Tract has the Nightforce beat. The only issue I had with eye relief was with the Nightforce SHV 4-14x50F1. It has a straight 3.1" eye relief across the board. To contrast, the Tract Toric has 3.9" of eye relief across the board.

I use NXS in the 2.5-10 (42 and 32), SHV's in the 3-10, and the Tract Toric 2-10. I do think the glass in the Toric is a little better and the eye relief is certainly better. None of that is a cut on the Nightforce scopes.....the Toric just has some really nice user characteristics for a hunting scope.

Recently bought 2 Zeiss Conquest HD 4 2X10X42 those are the 2 brightest scopes I have ever owned. Now to see if they hold up. One is on a 270 Win Vanguard Stainless S2 and the other is on

a 7mm Mag Vanguard Stainless S2. Very happy with them so far. But there are many other fine scopes out there, I have used Nikon, Leupold and Burris in the past. None have ever had to be returned to

Manufacture. I have a scope I bought in 1980 I think it is a Leupold VX III in 2.5X8X36 That scope has been on almost ever rifle I own, can not say enough good things about it. About as perfect hunting scope as you can get.
