I’m headed out to the store for a couple quarts later today.

The Irish have buttermilk on their steel-cut oatmeal, and it's pretty darn good. I indulge myself in some buttermilk once in a while as a treat. Buttermilk is like so many other things that seem just plain awful the first time you try them, but if you get to a second try, turn out to be enjoyable. By your third time, you're almost hooked.

Never heard of the salt and pepper thing; I drink mine straight. One important tip: rinse the glass immediately or buttermilk will pit the glass.

Funny you should mention that. Growing up there was always a block of lard in the refrigerator.
Never knew there was any other way to cook meat (steak, hamburger, pork chops) than frying it in lard in a cast iron pan until I was 13 or 14 years old. My grandmother was Slovak and she used a lot of lard for cooking, delicious.

Hmmm, never heard of buttermilk eating away glass🤔 if that's the case just think of what it would do to your insides?

"Pit" the glass may be a bit of an exaggeration, but if you leave that film of buttermilk on glass for an extended time (such as in the dishwasher) it will frost the glass.

Are your glasses from the 1800s?

Maybe we're all happy.

“Pail”

I like it but it’s been awhile. Might look for some here now that you made me think of it.

Jar of sauerkraut had a half a glass of juice left in it last night. Chugged it and mixed it with a white claw. Very tasty.

I would rather drink buttermilk than beer!! Love it in a bowl with day old cornbread or fresh bread.

Day old cornbread, wrap in paper towel and nuc for 10-15 seconds. Almost like fresh made, but not quite. miles

Great for recipes; totally disgusting to drink.

For those that use a lot of buttermilk, you can make your own at less than half the price at the store. Buy a half gallon of one percent milk, pour in a pint or so of buttermilk. Shake really well. Leave on counter all day (warm). That night shake again and put in frig. Next day the one percent should be thick, approach pudding thickness. Shake and drink. Use until the last 2-3 inches in the half gallon and add that to a new half gallon of one percent...never have to buy buttermilk at the store again. IT WORKS.
