I have heard many times that old dogs cannot learn new tricks. I turned 72 this week and I am here to say that just isn't true. Yesterday I learned two new things.

I received a powder coating system for my birthday and set it up yesterday. It looked pretty simple and I am smart enough to already know not to get between the gun and ground so that was not an issue. But, I could not make it work. It would spray but the powder would not stick. I was about to package it all up to return it after trying to get to work for about ten minutes when I discovered It would work a lot better if you turned the switch on the power unit from OFF to the ON position. It worked great after that.

Second lesson I learned was after baking a tray of bullets for 20 minutes at 400F you should really use gloves or a hot pad before trying to remove the tray from the oven. That lesson did not take anywhere near as long as the first one.

So see, old guys can learn. Now we will see if old guys cam remember.

I shake and bake with black airsoft BBs in my tumbler bot when I tried to use the same system to clear powder with the glow in the dark additive over the colored first coat it did not stick well. I needed a thicker coating to bake it really glow. I used the Harbor Freight powder coat gun to get a thicker coat and it worked real well.

Does the color of the airsoft BB's matter? Do some colors generate more static electricity than others?

It is supposed to be black from everything I have read. Amazon has a large bottle of them ant I have never seen black anywhere else.

I just recently tried powder coating. Seems like a good option, but I’ll still lube and size a lot of my bullets. The gloves are a must for the hot trays!
