Did the same last fall. Buddy was operating the trigger and he said it was almost a premonition to back off right then. If he hadn’t it woulda taken my fingertip off at the knuckle.

Well [bleep]. I have been told to soak in cider. Maybe that will help.

i'd go get that looked at. my son did a similar thing a couple years ago and they were able to make it look pretty normal. that will take a long time to heal on its own and won't heal right with the nail damage.

This. By all means. Can’t tell on my phone due to small photos, but it looks like exposed bone, meaning an open fracture, You don’t want infection or you’ll lose more of the finger. A repair can make it look and work better than you’d expect. Fortunately, sort of, most outdoorsmen get dinged up enough that our tetanus shots are current. Save the booze for when the ER bill comes. Glad it wasn’t worse.

Recently retired coworker did same about a month ago.

Thought it was a close call, just pinched it.
Didn't hurt real bad,
then thought it felt funny.

Took off his glove to look,
And half the finger was de-gloved.
Just a bare bone sticking up!

Your finger is laughing. It knows it will never pick a bugger again.

Dayom, sorry to see that, but not as sorry as for Irvings cut.

Hope it heals up ok and you got a tetanus shot.

Glad you didnt lose more.

Good for you. That’s worth celebrating all by itself. It cost me some cash when I nipped off a couple fingertips. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Of all people I would think a Canadian would have running a wood splitter down safe by the age of 4. That said yes it will hurt for a while and then be OK. Were you drinking the whiskey while splitting wood?
