Maybe it was suggested, I didn't read the whole thread, but will the Savage handle a 356? Same 30/30 case basically improved with a 35 Cal bullet

My first real deer rifle was a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. As much as I like the 35, I fail to see where there would be any advantage to having it in a bolt action rifle.

I had one of the above mentioned Model 600s in .35 Remington and it was a powderpuff to shoot. But also having a .350/600 Magnum ended up selling it....

As to the question above about if there are any pointed bullets that will expand...the answer is maybe...

Micky, I did not see a reply but the .356 is not an improved 30/30 case but a .307. Different animal. Think .308 and .358

No advantage, just preference in my case. Never liked lever actions all that much.

I don't know who this belongs to but I have always liked the looks of this rifle. I think it was posted on this forum a few years ago and I liked it and copied the picture. It is a 35 Remington. I'm left handed but could go for this gun.

Mart...i believe that one belonged to DMc , i recall that one also.

I have a Model 7KS that i've hunted with a good bit, and i like it quite a lot. Come to think of it, its probably my favorite bolt gun for deer hunting. Some years ago, Layne Simpson penned an article...... i think it was in Handloader, with bolt-gun-only .35rem load data that was a bit more peppy. Although, mine seems to kill stuff pretty well without hot-rodding it.

The 150gr load that R-P used to make shot great; so back when that was available as a component bullet i got some; have to look up data but i think those are loaded to about 2550fps in my rifle, and 180's run about 2300fps. I've shot several with the Speer 180 FNSP; works nicely.

cant see the rifle much, but this one is mine....wears a Leupold 1.5-5x, with German #4 reticle.

Nice buck and nice rifle. I think a 20 inch, bolt 35 Remington, wearing a Leupold VX II 1-4x would be just about the ideal heavy cover whitetail still hunting rifle. I've toyed with the idea of one of the left handed mini Mausers in 7.62x39 rebored to 35 caliber for that very purpose.

Mart - DMc did own that Model 7 KS 35 Rem. I purchased the rifle from him. I gave him the KS stock back as I swapped him for a different stock. The scope is a Leupold M8-4X.. I like the old texture style model 7 stock.

Ken,

That's a great looking rifle. I like that stock as well as the camouflage one it wore previously. Very nice. Now if it was left handed it would be perfect. grin

I made a Rem Model 7 .308 into a 35 Rem by removing the barrel and replacing it with a Rem Model 700 .223 barrel that JES rebored and rechambered to 35 Rem. Total cost was less than $850. It shoots exceptionally well and balances nicely. I wish mine had one of those nicely textured stocks!

Thanks, Dinny

I built this 35 rem bolt gun a few years ago with a Marlin XS7 308 win I got off CDNN for $249. Added a Shaw barrel. Has an external nut like a savage. Model 70 style bolt release. A trigger similar to Savages AccuTrigger. It has a Savage style extractor. No issues so far with the smaller rim. I've enjoyed my poor boy 35 Rem conversion. Not high end but fun!

I always wondered why Remington didn't chamber the 788 in .35 rem. They decided to do 30-30 and 44 mag instead. .35 rem was a pretty strong seller back in the late 60's when the 788 came out. It would have been great in the 18 1/2" 788 carbine.

Agreed. It would've made more sense than either the 30-30 or 44 mag in a bolt.

I started this thread back in 2013 as I wanted a bolt action chambered for a 35 Remington. I finally placed an order for one with Shaw on 12/02/2020. The gun was delivered to my dealer this past Monday. I am looking forward to getting the rifle ready for deer season.
