I have a toy hauler and will need new batteries soon. It’s a Forest River Vengence, if that matters.

I also need to install an inverter to run a CPAP that I use since Iraq

Any recommendations on batteries to get? To avoid?

Inverters? 750W should do all I need.

I would by the highest watt pair you can find and look for a solar charging panel.

Better to have it than not and needing it.

Costco RV battery's have a great warranty.

The last several Costco batteries I’ve bought needed it, too.

Deep cycle batteries..

You’ll get more amps by running two 6 bolt batteries in series than you will two 12 volt batteries in parallel.

LiFePO4 batteries are the best on the market but be prepared for sticker shock.

The last RV batteies I bought at Costco only had a 1 year warranty. The automotive batteries still have longer warranties.
The guy at the desk told me they got too many of the deep cycle batteries back for replacement due to owner ignorance or neglect. If you don't keep them charged properly they don't last long.

check and see if your cpap has a converter that makes 12v to run it. my cpap runs on 12 v so there is no loss going through the inverter if i plug into the rv battery. i put a 12v power point near my head just for the cpap.


i have one of the battery jumper boxes [ the big old fahsioned one] i got at harbor freight and it will run the cpap 2 and a half nights.

you can get deer feeder batteries and wire 2 up to run the cpap for 1 and a half nights.

a marine battery should run it for more than a week.

They make 3 sizes. The group 31 last the longest. It goes kinda like this
Group 27 = poor
Group 29 = better
Group 31 = best

However, the group 31 are bigger so if fit is an issue, better measure first. I have my camper set up to hold 3 group 31s. And I buy Deka because they give me the best service.

Where do you put group 24? (Grins)

I've gotten 5 years from 6v Costco batteries. I got a 12v power source for my CPAP. I don't have any problems with battery power from my CPAP. I generally run my generator every other day to top off the batteries.

I used to get pretty good service out of Costco marine batteries. The last time I returned one the counter guy was honest.
I said they sure don’t seem to last as long as they used to.
He said no, not after they changed suppliers. He stated the best thing about the current batteries is their warranty.

Trojan T-105 6-volt golf cart batteries are the gold standard for serious RV'ers.

But any decent 6 volt pair will be better than 12 volts, so I'd start there. Just ditch 12v.

Also, pro tip: Turn off your CPAP reservoir/hose heating features and the CPAP won't draw much at all.

Out of everything so far, this is the most successful route and there are simple explanations why, especially with an inverter in the equation. The T-105 is also a great battery, just get a fresh pair or make sure they're both fully charged (via a hydrometer).

I did get a chuckle out of the 27 "poor" 31 "best" guy....but for a hint, its a liquid to capacity issue. The ones with more lead, less fluid, all suck in this application, regardless of physical size. The heat generated by running output and a charge concurrently has a tendency to reduce fluid level and run times, then even more charging takes place. Honestly the entry level group 24 with the lowest output holds up better than most higher rated 24's, 27's, 29's, and 31's (the same thing as a 29), because they have less lead and more electrolyte. They obviously don't run as long out of the box, but will hold up better in this less than ideal usage over time.

Two 6V golf cart batteries in series are less prone to the fluid loss and increase the capacity, although when done with them a fluid check and a manual charge (verified by a hydrometer) should be standard service.

RV's and semi sleepers even many today, are charging when plugged to power, when the generator is running and when going down the road. The standard charge VOLTAGE is often too hot for Marine/RV battery applications, which is why going to two 6 volts is beneficial: they displace the greater voltage, heat and discharge better because of those two reasons.

If the run time isn't there, go to four of them, just monitor the fluid levels and charge (1275-1300 specific gravity, 6.36 OCV after surface charge).

Dude, get a lithium inverter like EcoFlow, Jackery, Goal Zero, or Bluetti and some solar panels if you have to power med equipment.
