On the Rio Grande about halfway between Eagle Pass and Del Rio, along a regularly travelled highway between those places. Bunch of feedlots and IIRC pecan orchards there. Quemado itself not really remote, miles of river upstream and downstream less inhabited.
I’m guessing those kids were left where they would be found. A Coyote with a conscience?

Here in the suburbs these days a parent is shamed or even arrested for allowing kids to ride a bike to the park by themselves....
as to this border issue that is the subject of this thread, its pretty nauseating to think of (I have 5 grandkids in the same age group as those in the photo) if those girls were just a bit older they would have had a saleable market value and we all know what would have happened to them and where they'd've ended up.
