We've all seen the nasty side mounts jobs that both kill value and are rather unhandy.

Got to thinking, why not a Scout Scope setup like Redfield used to make for the Winchester 94 ?

One thing lead to another. I discovered a EGW rail for the Savage 25 has the same contour as the as the barrel sleeve. Some new holes in it allowed it to use the rear sight screws. Some aircraft epoxy will ensure it stays on. (Easily removable with a needle torch). Burris Signature rings and a Vortex 2-7 Scout scope completed the job.

Should help hit something with the 30 !

Optics on guns that were never intended for them never appealed to me. Love that rifle you have though, and you have the cool peep sight.

Another post that raises the question of whether anything posted by Larry Root can be believed.

There are many guns carrying optics that did not even exist as we know them today.

Winchester lever guns w/scout scopes. Old military rifles with bent bolts and low scope safes. and so on.

A lot of us no longer have 20 year old eyes and shooting accurately trumps what some may see as appropriate.

Unlike the offset Weaver mounts, this is a non-destructive system easily undone by any future owner.

Now that I have tons of ammo, cases and dies, we'll see how she can do.

I have two and they will stay factory. If I wanted a scope I'd buy a 742.

Not anymore... I had an 81 in .300 Savage that I let go. One of these days I'll pick up a Model 8 in .25 Remington. Super cool rifles.

Good luck on finding a 25 with an excellent bore.

Most are sewer pipes or cost 3-4X a 30/32/35.

81 in 300 is a nasty thing, same class as S&W 329 with "Keith" loads.

Don't have one but admire the unusual swept back look of the piece. Goes good with the period ammunition boxes. Good on you for finding a way to keep it talking.
