I had a pointer I called "Jack".It was the name my grandfather gave to his best hunting dog.

I had a black and tan hound we named bullet because when he got a buck started a bullet would usually be fired

My really large and long legged black lab's name is " Makattac Certified Angus" Makattac being the kennel name and Angus the call name... If you ever saw the lanky beast... you would agree Angus is a proper name.

My little white Britt is called "Gemma's Swamp Marauder" Gemma being his mother's name and Swampy being his call name.

Black lab. Rio which is river in Spanish.

All gone. I guess I like strange names.
Random reasons for all of them.
Trying to find a Drahthaar for my next hunter. Who knows what strange name he'll get.

Males, I name after something they do. Last one likes to jump like a deer to try to make whatever it's after flush. Buck.

Females I name after women I dislike. Not really. Dixie and Sadie get recycled often.

If I ever got a black lab I'd name him Zulu. My boys allergic to labs so we have a WHP Griffon named Macy instead. She's going to be 2 in a few months so we are going to get her hips and everything certified and if everything checks out we'll rent her a boyfriend at the next heat.

Her parents are both great hunters and a local guy has a stud that looks great and won the state field trials. A guy who judges those events saw my dog and loved her so he gave me the stud owners number and told me he wanted a pup from the two when ready.

Macy name comes from Afrikaans word Meisie which translates girl.

Years ago I committed to buy a Yellow Lab female pup. While I was waiting for her to reach the age at which I could pick her up at the breeder, I was thinking about a name for her. One day I was looking through our Idaho Big Game Regulations and noticed how the state map was divided into the counties with their county names listed. One of those counties was Camas County, which I was familiar with. I liked the sound of that, so Camas became her name. Then my wife wanted a kitten. Back to the hunting regs for another name and we settled on Custer. Then an adopted orphan cat became Bingham. Then another adopted kitten became Fremont. Then an adopted stray dog became Franklin. Well, you get the picture…

Great Lab names might be Honker or Rio for a female

Otis or Pete for a male...

Hooker, Stinky, Jams

Not suggesting mine are cool but I always named my dogs single syllable names like Ted, Ben, Rip (took off twilight zone “the hunt”) Mae (female beagle only female I owned)

Had a pair of bird dogs that thought their names were "whoa" and "damitt"

Two Labs with names Nickel and Bella. Two Carolina curs squirrel dogs named JJ and Voodoo.

Used to know a man who had a dog named Modawg, because he was "jest a little mo' dog than most."

My wife named our latest dog Finley, kinda unique!
