Guys, I have a sincere question. No criticism, just a serious curiosity.
Where do you find 16 ga. shells?
Now, I don't have one but I do like em but I haven't seen 16 ga shells in a long time. When I did they were Xpensive.

the most 'perfect' are the 10 which sell the most, as the shooters have found them the most useful.
of course, that takes all the fun out of it. i did enjoy the guy that had the r2 lovel on his list.

Jerry Before the crunch they could be found at places like Cabelas but most stores don't have much of a selection. Usually I just order by the case from Midway, etc.

I don't really think there is a "perfect" cartridge for me, that sounds like the kind of thing somebody would go insane trying to find. That said, I definetely have my favourites and those tend to be all around well balanced cartridges.
.222 Remington .243 Winchester .270 Winchester 7x65r .30-06 Sprg 8x68S 9,3x62 / 9,3x74r .375 H&H Mag .450-400 NE .44 Magnum
I could probably be limited to these rounds and never in my life miss anything (excluding shotguns, of course). The .22lr simply didn't make the cut because I have a pretty hard time calling a rimfire round shooting a heeled, outside lubricated bullet perfect. That said, love .22s.

Jerry Before the current shortage, I bought RST shells and had them delivered. Mine are 2 1/2 inches and are fired in an old Fox double. I think I've bought 16ga Rem Game Loads at Walmart in the past as well for other guns. I like mine but still see the 16 as a niche gun today.

Thnx Caplock & WMR
You know sometimes we don't see things because we don't LOOK for them. I knew that I had looked for 16 ga shells because I don't have one.
ATST - before this crunch - 12s & 20s were about everywhere.
I have a shotshell loader but a guy would have to have 16 ga hulls.
Thnx Again
Jerry

It's obvious that the .22lr, .223, .308 (or 30-06 if you prefer) and 12 gauge should be on everyone's list. I don't shoot great distances or hunt big, nasty animals so won't comment on cartridges for those purposes. Based on the shooting and hunting I've done, I would add the .221 Fireball, .243, 6.5x55, and .35 Whelan. I'd like to add the 38-55 but it has all the issues that Muledeer cited for the 7x57, and more. And how can the .327 Fed be beat as a handgun (revolver) cartridge -- five different cartridges from the same gun, with factory ammo?

Jerry Before the present shortage I bought them at Wal-Mart. They carry Remington and Federal brand in both high and low brass loads for the same price as 12's and 20's.

16-gauge There was never any need for the 20 or 12 gauge after the 16 appeared.
Universal truth right there. I haven't figured out some of this stuff. I hunted with a 12 for many years and most of my family and extended family used 16s. Then I started working with the 20 and I haven't figured out why the others exist. Real head scratcher it is. OTOH, we don't have any mastodons around here....
