You would need to load your own.

Apparently the general Campfire inability to grasp irony applied to my 10 Perfect Cartridges post. I was less tongue-in-cheek about the 16-gauge than the other rounds, some of which were apparently too obscure for most members to know anything about.

But no, I do not believe the 16-gauge is the be-all and end-all of shotgun gauges--which is why I own and hunt with shotguns in 28, 20, 12 and 10 gauge--aside from my several 16s.

I do think the 16 is a little better than the 3" 20 for upland birds and decoyed duck hunting.

I also stocked up on 16-gauage factory ammo long before this latest "shortage"--but also bought a few boxes at local stores as the trend became more obvious. But also had enough 16-gauge components on hand to feed my (and Eileen's) 16s for the rest of our hunting lives.

A 9mm might be better for number 10. You can shoot anything with one of those rifles a big pistol would be suitable for. Most of my picks are based on availability except the 458 Lott

Since I've written off Africa (lived there, done that) I'd delete #7.

And If I had to have 10, I'd insert a .22 handgun into the list.

The rest of the list nails it.

HUH ? Never questioned your irony or intent.

I asked about the availability of 16 ga ammo - that’s all.

Before the present shortage I bought them at Wal-Mart. They carry Remington and Federal brand in both high and low brass loads for the same price as 12's and 20's.

Not a shortage. Demand is way up , Bleck Squirt
Call it what you wish Boob. Where I come from if there isn't enough supply to meet demand it's called a shortage.

1. 22 long rifle--You have to have one
2. 223 Remington/5.56 Nato-- To compete in Highpower
3. 6mmBR--Most inherently accurate cartridge (I hate that term btw) I think you can sweep powder off the floor, reload a 6BR and it will still shoot sub-MOA
4. 308 Winchester--Deer size game
5. 338 Win mag--Can Hunt anything in North America
6. 375 H&H--Can kill anything anywhere
7. 470 Nitro--Have to have at least one double rifle
8. 12 gauge--Birds
9. 9MM--Self Protection, and no, I do not squat to pee
10.44 Magnum--You never know when you may need to go Dirty Harry on something

One thing I tend to wonder about threads like this is how many animals each poster has actually shot (or seen shot) with each of the magic rounds.

On the other hand, I don't wonder as much about target rounds, because target shooters tend to have far more experience in killing paper.

Dead paper is less messy than dead critters IMHO.
