Looking for input on the Black Nitride gun finish. I'd like to hear from anyone that has had it done and how you like it, how it had held up, who did it, and pics if you have them.

My Kelblys Atlas Tactical action is black nitride. Entire action and bolt.


I just put the 300th round through it this evening. I'd have to look...but I don't think the lugs or bolt body show any wear.


Slick and seems extremely durable. Looks nice too.


Will probably have my 6mm barrel and brake done when I get that one spun up.

I bought a couple Defiance Ruckus actions and had them black nitrided with the purchase. The one action I’ve had built on, is much slicker than those I’ve had coated with cerakote. I’m a fan, gonna send a couple of anTi actions in to H&M to have them done this summer.

I have a. Number of them so treated. I like it on action but not a fan in bore

The Black Nitride treatment process does leave a bit of crusty residue, which should really be cleaned from crevices before reassembly, and must be cleaned from the bore if you want good shooting results. I used JB abrasive bore cleaning paste. The Black Nitride treated steel is harder than if it were chromed, so vigorous cleaning is not likely to hurt it.

As for accuracy, this target was shot at 50 yards over sandbags:



I highly recommend the H&M Black Nitride treatment.

The process leaves a salt residue. I soak mine in a tub of water for a week and then clean.
An excellent process, but the bores need to be cleaned properly before shooting.
