I have a marlin 1893 take down, tapered, octagon barrel rifle. It has been redone a few years ago. Bluing and wood extremely nice. Takedown works as designed and locks up tight. 2269xx is the serial number and the barrel is 26 inch. I believe it was made in 1901. I will try to post pictures. What is this worth? I am looking at another gun or two and am wondering if this one will cover the others, or do I have to sell 2 Marlins! Any other questions, just ask. I’ll work on some pictures tonite or tomorrow.

The beautiful blue ing really knocks the value outta the nice piece!

I would think you will be looking at $1350.......

That is a bit lower than I was hoping...... I was guessing maybe 1500-1800+ but it is what it is. Seems I always get less when selling, and pay more when buying. Thank You for your insight.

Would venture about same as Angus if online or store/consigned, if only because in those cases your market is folks often in-tune with the market and will readily pass if priced over market. It’s the re-blue, etc that does it.

What chambering? That could skew things a bit. If a desired cowboy shoot chambering, you may do better. Also at a gunshow, private sale, you might be closer to 1500, where impulse and gotta-have-it-now is more powerful, sometimes. JMO though.

But, fret not. Am in the buy high, sell low club most of the time, too. Hinges around whether one is buying/selling “soon”, vs. carrying inventory like a store, waiting out for the high roller to come ‘round.

I have collected marlin Model 1893's for about 30 years now. I can tell you that the re-finish on your (or any, for that matter) Model 1893 absolutely kills the value from a collector standpoint. So now we have to look at shooter value. With that, you have to look at comparable rifles. What compares to a Model 1893 ? The newer Marlin lever actions. While their prices are steadily climbing, a rough value on any decent 336 would be in the $650 - $800 neighborhood. From a collector standpoint, I'd value your rifle at about that. Maybe a little more. There is something to be said about hunting with a 100+ yr. old rifle vs. a newer rifle. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but I see decent ORIGINAL 1893's selling in the $1200 - $1500 range. I am assuming this is in .30-30 caliber ? I think you will look hard and long to find someone willing to pay more than shooter value for a completely re-finished 1893. I think on the high end for a very nicely (which yours is) re-finished Modell 1893, your looking at $1000.

Good luck

WB

Forgot about this thread, sorry. Yes 30-30 caliber. It has not been shot since it has been redone. Maybe I’ll go shoot it and enjoy it.
