I recently fitted a Burris Fastfire 3 on an EGW plate to my 45/70. I will hopefully get an opportunity to test it on game very soon, with faster target acquisition the main objective.

I like the looks of that sight. How big is the dot? I have an Aimpoint micro mounted on a scout rail on my 444 now. Havent hunted with it on the Marlin yet, but Ive had the same Aimpoint micro on a 338 federal that I did hunt with a lot. I loved it and found I could shoot out to 300 yards accurately. Longest shot at game was just over 300 at a dall ram. Im thinking about the aimpoint hunter on my 308 mountain rifle.

I really like how this looks. Right now my 1895G is scopeless and I have been looking for a Leupold 1.5-5, which is what all of my other Marlins wear. Providing I can get good accuracy out to 150 yards, this may be preferable to a scope.

I have the Burris Fastfire on my 460 “Smith”. It’s taken a little bit of learning to quickly find the dot! However, with a rifle.....dot acquisition should be much easier. I’m using the 3 MOA dot, there are one or two larger dots available! memtb

Hey, if the dot seems flared to the eye then move the sight to the front set of screws plus its faster on target up front too. Also, don’t be afraid to brighten the dot outside. And, practice acquiring targets with it everyday.

Ghost rings closer to the eye, red dots farther.

I like running a set of ghost rings, sight them in, then add a red dot to the front screws. Burris setup makes it easy otherwise I cut a Marlin or Mossberg 500 rail to mount in the front holes and touch it up with black appliance paint. I use a rail that is center grooved so you can see the sights no problem if you have to rip the red dot off. Even a modified old flat type rail without the center groove sits lower than XS Ghost sites.

Whether Ghost Rings, a 2.5x, or red dot, the more you use them the more you use them.

Happy Hunting

The Burris Fastfire has a “auto” feature which changes the brightness of the dot depending upon ambient lighting! It also has an “auto” shut-down feature after 4 or 5 hours, not certain on time. Both features are real nice on a sight to be used for hunting purposes! memtb
