FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS — An attempted mass shooting was stopped by an armed citizen and his hunting rifle, after seeing a man shoot and kill someone at an apartment complex and then fire on others. Before the suspect was taken down, he unfortunately was successful with killing 87-year-old Lois Hicks, who was gunned down inside her apartment.

Witnesses say the suspect yelled and tried getting people outside of their apartments. Hicks was one person who did come out, to console the suspect, according to witnesses. When people realized that he had a gun, they ran back inside. After the suspect shot and killed Hicks, he continued on.

[The suspect] continued to shoot his rifle at neighboring apartments. A resident at the apartments heard the gunshots and got a hunting rifle which he used to shoot and kill Arnold.

Neighbors who witnessed the shooting say [the suspect] was trying to persuade people to come outside of their apartment buildings.

“He was yelling and screaming, “You guys get out here, come out here, everyone get out of this building right now,” says Janey Peugh, a resident of the apartment complex.

Well, the wound caused by a hunting rifle with expanding bullets would certainly end him quickly. Good work. No trial or life sentence for us taxpayers to fund.

I'd like to know more about the rifle, the caliber, the load and the color of the suspect.

Good to know the vermin was put down by an armed patriot.

If no one read the article, the shooter was a 26 yr old White guy, military vet suffering from PTSD...

Sad day all around. my first question was Arnold, the Veteran Shooter, getting any counseling from the VA...
Sad his life had to end like this... my son is his age.

Sorry 87 yr/old MS Hicks had to lose her life like this.

I am grateful that a local neighbor was able to end this before the situation got worse and more people lost their lives.

I am sadden the most, that a veteran who served his country, and was mentally damaged over it, was killed when he needed counseling more than anything.

I use to keep a varmint rifle in my car for years, in case I was ever put in this position, where a shooter was just trying to kill innocent victims because he had a bug up his ass about society. I think quit that when Trump got elected....

I am most impressed with the fact that the guy was able to hit anything with a Mossberg rifle.

Now we are supposed to take into consideration the traumatic background of shooters before we celebrate instant justice? Hmmmm, extend that line of thought...

Can’t quite get the obsession with “what’s the gun” when these things happen.

Have police called the mass shooter a “victim” yet?
