Looking at a newer Lund Alaskan. Possibly 2000 but leaning toward 1800. Big lake fishing for catfish, walleye and crappie. Seems like a solid looking rig. Any feedback welcome.

I had a 1600 tiller. Like any tiller, it’s a wet ride. BUT, it’s super stable and fishes pretty big because of how open it is. It’s also very easy to clean. If I were fishing lakes where you may run a few miles, I’d opt for the full windshield, which is what I upgraded to. Maybe a side console on the 1800 so casting from the bow wasn’t so cramped.

One thing to consider on the 1800 is there is only two places to put batteries for a bow mount. I had a 24v trolling motor on the bow and there is no way to offset the batteries to help with balance until you get the compartments that come on the 2000.

I sold mine to my nephew and bought a bigger windshield boat. I didn’t max out the power on my lund and that was a big mistake. Wide open on the Mercury 50hp tiller was about 26mph. I’m now in an 18 footer with a 115 Yamaha SHO and cruise at 40mph.

Thinking side console. If I wait another year, I'll toss a little more cash in the pot and upsize right from the start I think. Fall is almost all hunting for me so may try to order late fall for spring fishing. Thanks for input and thinking I need to upsize the motor I was looking at too.

ALWAYS go with the bigger size if you're trying to decide what to get. Every boat owner gets 2 foot itis within a year or two, and get more motor than you think you need. Nobody ever wished for less power

Just a basic Lund Alaskan20 ft with no motor or trailer, is $20,000. That's insane. Overpriced, imo.

Got a deal done. Pick it up in 10 days. Upsized boat and motor per advice and common sense. So now we're setup for retirement boat it would seem. Time to jerk some jaws for the first time in too long. I'll toss up a pic once I get it.

I passed up a really nice 18' one in the neighborhood last fall. I was going by and the guy was just washing it up and had a for sale sign on it for $8,000. It was a '99 Lund Alaskan with an EZ loader trailer and a 2006 Yamaha 60 hp tiller. I stopped and talked with him and it was too big for the river fishing that he did. That boat sold inside of a day. What people don't realize is that the older aluminum boats used virgin aluminum and the newer ones use reclaimed aluminum. My Canada camp owner buys every nice old S-16 Lund that he can find because the rocks dent and the rivets let go in the newer aluminum boats.

Yeah big time I would not have even had the courtesy to wait for him to finish washing it. I 'd a bought it on the spot. Mb

Yeah, his sign said "8,000. or best offer". The older guy didn't know what he had and if I'd have pressed him, he would have thrown in the Minn Kota trolling motor hanging off the back as well. I texted my boat buddy right away, but like me, he has too many boats now. The boat had a stereo radio set up in it too.

Ended up buying a Lund 1775 Impact. So it goes 17' 10" long and has an 8' wide beam, 25" deep transom. Its coming with a 90 hp Mercury on it and hoping that works fine for just my wife and I. We won't be needing long runs and right now inventory is tight enough that I was happy to find it. Worst case I can upsize to a 115 if needed down the road but I highly doubt it. Picking it up either Saturday or early next week. The Impact has a side console and mostly open floor. Should be ideal for the fishing we want to do.

First thing I am doing is upgrading trailer tires on it due to mostly long drives to spots we'll be fishing. Has a travel cover coming with it. Need to grab a Terrova troller and some electronics yet.

I’m going to get a lund impact 1875 next year - or at least planning to order one.

How much did they get you for with your 1775?

That boat will be a smooth ride! The 90 will be fine. My boat is only a couple inches longer and it flies with a 115.

Which Terrova are you gonna get? I would suggest at least the 80# with 60” shaft on 24 volts. A good onboard charger is a must. Just plug your boat into the wall and you’re good! 24 and 36 volt motors last a real long time on one charge. When you’re fishing from the bow, you’ll wonder why you need a 60” shaft. But if you’re using your iPilot from the back on some chop, you’ll be guaranteed to keep the trolling motor head in the water and still be able to see where your motor is pointing.

That is the exact motor I was looking at, 24V and 60". Thinking we'll be trolling for walleye, wipers and crappie yet this summer so going to put in a down imaging Helix 7 in the rear and then next year will add a side imaging unit with transducer on the troller up front. The dealer installed the 24V charger already so that is one less thing I need to do.

Going to use it for a few months and decide on adding the flip up aft seats or just buying to more seats with pedestals. Going back and forth and figured after a few trips, we'd know which we wanted more.

I’m excited to see how your new rig turns out. I too have wanted a Alaskan. Actually there are a few boats that have my eye, namely Smokercraft/Starcraft Freedoms and Polarkraft Outlander. All have the open concept, no bow casting platform that appeals to me.

I habitually look for these, used, but finding a deal seems impossible.

I'd look at Crestliner Fish Hawk, Alumacraft Competitor, as well. I gave up on the Alaskan after looking around and pricing some things. For me, I may be doing some casting for crappie and bass and the Impact seems to be set up good for that. It has a lot of open room as well and should be handy for dragging blue cats into the back.

There were some pretty good deals on Crestliner 2020 models out there and if one had been closer, I may have jumped. I'll throw up a few pics after I get it. A lot of the rigging is backordered of course so troller and electronics will get added as they come in later.

The Terrova is great. I even use it with downriggers for kokanee and landlocked coho. As far as the seats, I prefer the jump seats because they are integrated into the casting deck and dont take up deck space. They also don’t require pedestal receivers that I end up tripping on. I can’t imagine them being as comfortable, but deck space comes at a premium.

Truth about deck space. Wife was leaning towards those jump seats too. Think if dealer who is 3 hours from me shipped those to me, I could do the install? Never seen them up close but wondering if it is just drilling a few holes and mounting it up?

There is a high probability I’ll be putting my Alaskan 1800 on the market this fall or next spring - dam thing is hardly broken in...

I’m not looking forward to rigging. Up another boat, but I can put a bigger catfish style live well in an impact so I’ll get one of those - I’ll likely have to order it though.

Alumacraft makes an equally good boat. I bought a new T-195 with a 200 hp Yamaha, Ulterra 36 volt, Helix 10x on a really nice dual axle trailer for $38k a couple of years ago. Boat will easily run mid to upper 40’s with the wife and I and a fuel tank and all our fishing gear. Built like a tank.
Nothing wrong with Lund, but IMO Alumacraft is at least equal to their quality.

We really enjoy the set up and the room. Wife fishes out the bow and me the stern. Pulled out the stock seats except for the driver and passenger. We each have a fold up padded deck chair to move anywhere we like. When I moved here thought a bass boat was in our future but we quickly decided we wanted to be in the boat and not on it.

The jump seats are incorporated into the deck at the factory. You’d have to cut the deck to fit them into it, or replace the whole deck. I think it would be best to test ride it with and without and make a decision before buying.

This boat is real popular amongst the tournament walleye guys here. I believe Alumacraft and Lund might both be Brunswick products. Crestliner is another good option.

The welded vs riveted thing is a big debate, especially in the PNW. Its like people on the west coast dont think there are waves anywhere else in the world. But hey, my boat is welded!

should be a good one

Gooch, I looked via internet at an Alumaweld 18' adventurer. Looked like a really solid boat from the PNW. This one was much more conveniently located so made this decision. Will grab it Monday and get to work setting it up.

The other model that was really growing on me was the Alaskan 2000. The slightly raised floor in that model upfront looked to be just right to me. And its hugely open inside. Nice boat. Kind of much for just 2 of us but would look at it if a guy routinely took 3-4 out.

Alumaweld boats, and many other NW based heavy-gauge aluminum boats are tougher than hell, but don’t have much as far as creature comforts. Things like livewells are upgrades. But, you look at hull thickness and most are around .160 and some more. My lund 1600 was .080.

Got it home with no issues. Have a Hummingbird Helix 7 and a Minnkota Terrova on order. I think I can handle the Terrova install pretty easy. Never wired a fish locator so that will take some time I am sure. Ordered a stern saver so I can mount a synthetic block on the transom and drill into it for the transducer. Wife is loading it up with all kinds of stuff and we're both pretty excited. Couple of pics as it sits now.

Very, very nice! Fish finders are pretty easy to install. Check your boat's fuse panel as it will likely have spares you can connect to.

Just make sure it is the correct fuse. Most sonar units use 1 to 3 amp fuses.

Thanks for advice on those. I'll need to have clear directions on installing this stuff. I actually think the troller may be easy. Has a plug up front and battery charger came pre wired. So mount the base carefully and roll on that. At least I think so. The Hummingbirds for some reason have me nervous but hope to figure them out fast. And will double check those fuses.

The trolling motor is no biggie. One thing I’d put on there is a cradle for the motor head. It supports it while going down the road or when you’re underway. I wonder if your boat will take the same sportstrac mounts as mine? If so, I may have a few you can have.

Gooch, It seems to have the angled sportstrac rail versus the 90 degree rail. Can post a pic later. Getting ready to go see if this thing floats for a few hours. I'll see what the Terrova comes with for a cradle. If it doesn't will see about adding that.

Bought a Universal My Wedge to use when towing on the outboard. Supposed to support the transom better. Its on the way now.

30338, congrats on the boat. As soon as this heat spell breaks here, I’ll hopefully get out on the water too. I have a 19 1/2 Crestliner, Blue Velvet with 150 Yamaha Vmax, walk-through windshield, and fitted to my purposes. I’ve never wished for smaller if on the Missouri River reservoirs in SD, but when fishing regional lakes alone, sometimes I think I’d go for a 17-footer.

But it’s been a great rig and it’s definitely boat time. Good fishing!

Great looking boat George! I imagine that 150 moves it pretty well.

We got out last night with ours for the first time and it should suit us just fine. Need to get back out some early mornings and try fishing a bit. Kind of need some things that are on order to come in though. Loved that it was really easy to load and unload. Gotta get my wife comfortable with putting it on the trailer this summer.

Yeah Kurt you do but show her everything especially the driving and operating part so that you can learn to put up your feet while handling your fishing rod in one hand and beer in the other. Mb

Kind of need some things that are on order to come in though. Loved that it was really easy to load and unload. Gotta get my wife comfortable with putting it on the trailer this summer.

That’s A thing. Where we fish there are not too many ramps and they are usually busy. My wife wants nothing to do with it — makes her nervous. So I have to load and unload myself which definitely slows it down a bit.

You have a nice looking rig.

Great looking boats there for sure. The fish are on a tear around here. I had hoped to get out one morning this week but life got in the way. Saturday will be my next attempt and if all goes well, I'll go on Sunday too.

Loading and unloading are worth practicing at first, in my opinion. I've had this boat since 08 and its become quite easy to load and unload by myself, or with others. Did you get bunks or rollers on your trailer?

This Shorelander came with bunks and roller guides. It centered really well for me last night so am quite sure the wife can manage it with practice. Hoping stuff starts showing up on my front porch as I am wanting to get out fishing soon myself. Just need a few things to get here first.

Good luck to you if you get out this weekend!

I hope you get your stuff soon. I am on Terrova #2. The first one had a seal leak after giving good service and so I replaced it with a newer one. Good outfits. I use Lowrance myself and just reoutfitted the electronics this spring.

We are fortunate to have relatively deep boat ramps out here at the River and so almost everyone in town has bunk trailers. In the shallow dishpan lakes further east, the boat ramps can be quite torturously flat and roller trailers are common and for good reasons. Point being you can tell who's used to what when they are not in home water anymore. I had a hell of a time getting my boat on and off the bunks fishing up there two weeks ago, and the roller guys will dump a few boats off onto the concrete each summer when at the river.

Poking a little fun at George's neighbors and friends here but what is it with Iowans and Nebraskans and boat ramps? Do they give awards down there for slowest entry and parking? Is there a rule that all persons present must board at the same instant after carrying all their gear and accoutrements down the ramp individually?

Dakotans and Minnesotans, for the most part: Arrive at launch. Unstrap your boat, put your gear, bait, lunch, people in the boat, pull onto ramp and back it down, float it off, they tool around allowing others to use the ramp, until the driver parks and makes his way down where he steps in and off they go.

Iowans and Nebraskans, for the most part: Arrive at launch. Wait their turn. Pull onto the ramp. Park. Unstrap boat. Float it off. Tie it up. Drive up the ramp and park. All get out and carry down an item. One or more go back for a second item. All get in at the same time. Off they go, talking amongst themselves about why people seem unfriendly.

That’s pretty funny BK. I worked (I’m retired) with a surgeon originally from SE MN who is a very serious fisherman. He also told me the Minnesotans’ version of Iowans at the boat ramp. About the same as yours..😮 🙂

I have learned to get everything! ship-shape in the parking lot and even give a little extra slack to the securing strap — not too much as I have rollers. Get the trailer-fender water level to just float the boat, release strap and chain and push to end of the dock and secure. Don’t even start it. The docks where I do this are long enough that I don’t hold up traffic coming or going.

Dash up to the truck and get off the ramp to the lot.

On return, I don’t get the trailer quite as quite deep and run the boat up on the rollers just high enough that
it doesn’t slide off. Hook and winch a few turns and get it out to the lot where I reorganize.

The defense rests its case. 😀

Crossing the bridge at Chamberlain a couple years ago, on the west side there is a ramp on the north end of the bridge and there lay a very, very nice, bigger boat — in the higher 20’s I’m sure — scuttled on its side on the concrete ramp. Somebody had had a bad boat day..

There is no doubt two guys who know what they are doing get in and out about as fast an an Indy 500 pit stop.

Sweet rig. Should treat you and the wife very well. Make sure you play with the trim a lot when you are running. I run my Yamaha all the way down then count slowly to three as I raise the motor up and it seems to be the best position to run the motor.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I'll for sure give that a try. Got 3 hours on it last outing. Has a gauge for trim so can keep track on there what will work best. Never thought to move that around while underway. As I said before, boat newbie and all advice welcomed.

If you start all the way down, as you trim it up, your speed will increase until you find the sweet spot.

Really nice looking boat and the Lund 1775 Impact is one of 2 boats I have on my short list. The other is Alumacraft 175 Competitor. Hopefully I'll have one of the two parked in my garage late fall when boats become available for order again here in Vt.

Got the Minnkota Terrova Riptide mounted up front. Had great help from my wife and we got it lined up per the various youtube videos and instructions. Wired up the 2 12 volt batteries and hooked up the RS2 onboard charger to them.

Transom saver is mounted and ready for the transducer to be mounted. Ordered some Connect-Ease electrical gadgets that should help me as a rookie wiring pucks, and Hummingbird locators. Waiting on a ball mount for the Helix 7.

I probably would have paid a local dealer to do this stuff but the local Lund dealer in Denver has not proven to be worth working with. Only piece of advice I would give would be to make sure your local Alumacraft, Crestliner or Lund dealer is competent and cooperative. No big deal for me really as kind of enjoying the setting up stuff, but unless you have a lot of time it could be a pain. Anxious to get it back out soon.

I’m in the Midwest and we get a lot of wind and waves on the decent sized lakes so I like an 18 foot

That 1875 with the extra floor room would allow for a heckuva livewell across the back. I was kind of thinking with just 2 of us fishing I could use a 100 quart cooler and throw em right on ice in mine.

Update on boat. Got the Riptide troller installed and so far liking it a lot. Have a lot to learn with routes, saving routes, and using various options. The Hummingbird Helix 7 seems nice also. We have played with settings a bit on it. For trolling the Cisco Lund base plates have worked great. We mounted Scotty's rod holders on those and they are quite functional. Had an 8 walleye day today doing a little trolling with Bomber 300s.

Its been worth it and so far the boat seems to fit our needs nicely. It loads super easy and has been good trailering. If we land any lunkers, we'll post pics lol.

Bob, Here are a few pics. That was my first decent walleye this am at about 5:45. The view towards the back shows my cisco mounting plates and Scotty's rod holders. Those Cisco plates are rock solid on the Lund mounting rail. Really highly recommend those. The yellow tape was a temporary hold while I figured out GPS compass location. Got it screwed on now. I really like the RAM mount for the Helix 7 also. Very adjustable. I used #10 bolts and locking washers to mount that up vs the supplied wood screws from Hummingbird. Way more secure.

Wife and I are loving it. Pics aren't great but gives you an idea. The onboard charger for the 24V troller is very nice and easy.

Bob, that is actually a small lake in the Denver metro area. Its about a 40 minute drive so we are using it for getting used to the boat. Did catch 7 walleyes and had a nice crappie get off at the boat in a few hours of fishing. Hard to find keepers as you can imagine the fishing pressure it gets but still a great place to go on summer mornings.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Yours is a new outfit without to much worry about motor failure but still having a usable lake close by is handy. I've got a couple of 16' Fishing boats I'm trying to get back to reliable using condition, a close lake for test drives would be nice to use. Pactola has to suffice it's about 28 miles out. Last test drive produced a couple of northern pike and a ignition switch failure. Good with the bad, that' s old boat motors for you. Mb

I was thinking about bringing my boat out to Pactola and putting the cannon balls down for some of those big lakers. Any bite going on there?

Was earlier this spring, your only allowed 1 a day to keep and min length is 24" . I talked to a guy on a pontoon that had down riggers and they had some nice rainbows and 1 27" laker. I asked how deep he said about 30 feet that was in may. Mb

Update on the Lund Impact. Been trying to get out 2-3 times a week all summer. Done a few late evening trips as well. Its a really solid setup for fishing up to 4 people. 3 is better and for 2 there is a ton of room. Glad we bought it last year. We've learned a few things about Lindy rigs and bouncing worms on the bottom. Having a great time and catching good numbers of walleyes. Looking back, its been a real good purchase and it should serve our needs very well. This was a 21" walleye from this am.
