Very nice, those grips really make it look good. I have a SDM patridge sight on my Classic with a gold dot for a little bit of bling.😁 seems to help in picking it up a little quicker.
Again very nice revolver.

Are those wood grips designed for a round butt revolver?

Much better, IMO.

Agreed. Looks great with those grips.

No, the Hogue's on it are the original grips and have the S&W marks.

Ed this gun you got is getting more interesting by the minute. 629-4's were made from 1984-98 with the serial # prefix of cbh it was made between august 1996 and august of 97. The product code is 103606 which means it's a 6" std production but it has a Magna Classic Stainless frame from a 629-3. I'd guess it was a special order or made up with a magna classic frame which were a limited run from 1990 of 1200 guns. I got this info from the Standard catalog of Smith and Wesson 3 rd edn by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas. This gun is a collector for sure. Mb

MB,

Interesting. I'll have to dig out my 4th edition. What tells you it has a Magna Classic frame? I need to visit the S&W Forum. I haven't been over there in a while. Thanks for the info.

Ed in the 3rd ed'n on page 258 bottom paragraph left column. Model 629-3: The Magna Classic Stainless
CALIBER: .44 Magnum. Double action revolver built on the round butt N target frame with 3 screws.. the right column in 258 and all of 259 are cumulative listings of the compiled Variations of the 629. No other descriptions covers your gun. On page 200 they tell of the m 29-5 magna classic blue( again a round butt N frame. Notice the grips smooth finger groove round butt I've seen them on the short barred 629 Lew Horton special. I like to know about the things I have , I have a set of those grips. On page 260 you'll find a compiled list m629 variatiations , product Codes and features 103606 which is on the end flap label of your box. On page 400 you will find 3 letter prefixes to serials in this year range. If the serial on your box and gun match you should be golden. In the crane cut out on the frame the serial there should match and model number say 629-4 or 629-3?. Naturally the possibility of my research could be faulty but nonetheless I think you have a fairly rare variation of the 629- 3 or 4? Could dang well be worth 2-3 times what you paid for it as a shooter to a well heeled collector . Until you know exactly what it is I would not modify any thing else. Mb

MB,

Thanks for the reply. The gun is stamped 629-4 and the box and gun SN's match. I'll dig out my book today. Speaking of grips, I recently purchased what appear to be factory grips. Both are N-frame RB with one set without emblem and rather flat on the side like those of a M610 no dash with a matte finish, the other set with emblem, gloss finish and highly figured wood. I'll dig through book and see if I can figure out what they were once on.

Ed

EdM: What a wonderful (Classic!) pistol you acquired there.
Good for you.
And I concur with others here that was an "excellent" buy in this day and age.
Enjoy.
Finding it difficult to suppress much "envy" here!
