Drew DM012O2R unit 12 second season have not hunted it before but going to give it a go. If anyone can throw me a bone I sure would appreciate it.

Place to camp we will be in wall tents etc.
Will plan a scouting trip what time of year would anyone recommend to go out. Not asking for honey hole just a good camp spot and any ideas from someone that use to hunt it to get us started.

We are all in good shape although we are in the over 50 club lol.
Thank you guys in advance.

I've only hunted 23 with tags that were good for 12 and 24.. Been a bit in 24 too.

Its very nice country. Mountains west and south. Open north and east. Dirt has red clay in it. Gets soapy slick when wet. Can snow hard and fast.

Meeker has supplies, and game processing.

Good luck and all the best.

I have always wanted to hunt that area as I have some friends in those parts. The flattops always intrigued me , never got there. Now, in cheeseheadville, every swinging dick I have run into that hunts Colorado hunts in those units! Phuque that!

Troublesome8 ya never know until ya go there could be bad could be real bad or could be good ,you never know. ( Beats working)
Besides we are out hunting that's what counts got a tag in my pocket and a rifle in my hand and i am still able to hike to get away from 80% of the hunters i say give it a shot.
If it does not work out try another spot next year.

Biggest buck I've ever seen was shot in Yellow Jacket Pass. Saw it in the Walmart parking lot in Craig. Three high school kids ditched school and brought out a trophy. I hunt across the roar in unit 211.

Biggest I ever saw was there in area 23.. East side of the Buford/New Castle Rd. Big Ridge, right below Burrow Mnt. About 4 or 5 years ago. Had took a cow elk and was camped waiting for the meat to be processed in Meeker. Looked up from my book. Deer was walking away from me across the park. The rear tines reached back to his hams easy. No camera handy. Right at twilight.

Its a very nice area. Ive had close up visits with a couple big bucks, bull elk and a few bears. For a few years, I kept the freezer full of cow elk meat. I got tired of the bureaucratic paper chase, crowds, and personal schedule conflicts and gave it up for awhile. I still like going there when I can.
