Can anyone compare use of this ammo to CCI SV?

Application: killing ground squirrels at a farm, shots within 50 yards. Bolt rifle with 22" barrel, Marlin 880 SQ.
I see that the Quiet ammo is available both in HP and RN.

As accurate as SV?

Thank you

Velocity is only 710 fps so it drops significantly more than SV. Basically, a 25 yd load and not as accurate as SV in my rifles. It is CB cap quiet. The fragmenting loads are good killers for dispatching vermin.

Thanks! How much drop compared to a SV load?

Try the Quiet Auto too. Heavier bullet, a little faster. Last time out, it landed pretty close to several standard velocity loads. Only real way to be certain is to try them in your rifle. Not only elevation, but windage may differ.

Have had decent accuracy in some guns with both, not so hot in others, but only truly bad in revolvers for some reason, just like Aguila Colibris. The Auto version cycles my 10/22, btw, so if limited to one of the two, I’d take Auto.

Sorry, I don't know the actual drop difference but it would be significant enough to miss a small rodent. You may be okay if you re-zeroed the rifle to 50 yds, and used the fragmenting loads.

Thanks fellas.
I left a message with CCI just now re drop difference between SV and Quiet. If I get a call back I'll post what they tell me here

A friend and I have now gone through just under a case of 710 fps seg HPs killing rats with night vision on dairy farms. To 20 yds they are vicious, either DRT or close.

Between 20 and 30 yds they kill but expect runoffs......and squealing. We shoot the Quiet segs inside barns, often right under the noses of cows where rats eat the silage. Cows don't care.

We accuracy tested in Ruger Americans and my Anschutz sporter. Even ignoring the need for accurate distance assessment, they exhibit significant vertical stringing beyond 25 yds, reflecting velocity variations.

You could make hits at 50 yds on larger vermin, but the punch is gone at that distance.

We accidentally took a box of the 1050 fps subsonic HP segs out one night. Luckily we started outside. Wow! Much more impressive DRTs out to 35 yds. Bit more noise tho.

I would expect them to be about on a level with the Crossman pellet guns we had as kids.

I’ll echo what others seem to have said. It’s a nice very quiet round for killin pest up close. Rodents in a barn, a raccoon or possum in the the corner of your suburban neighborhood garage that sort of thing. Definitely not ideal for ground squirrels out to 50 yards. Not that it won’t work but you’ll miss a few and won’t always get fast kills.

They are considerably more powerful than that.

When the Quiets first came out they were pretty cheap, about $2.25 a box, so I bought a bunch as practice ammo. They were good enough up to 50 yards for offhand practice, as long as I ignored or adjusted for the POI difference. In auto or SS pistols, they were okay as well, single fed in the autos. Haven’t done well enough in anything to be considered for shooting live critters (I don’t have a barn), and I’ve never bought more. The Auto version seems more promising, and cycles the autos, so I may buy more of those if I find them at a decent price. Seems like both were higher than SV before the crunch hit, and SV is a much more useful round. The even less powerful Colibris have only good to about 10 yards or so, single-fed in pistols, and land about 3/4” low at that range (my basement).

A couple of years back, SGammo had RWS HPs in both SS and HS for about $25 a brick. I bought a couple of each (the SS was my standard small game load). Wish I had bought a lot more now! That’s one instance where “Mr. Prepared” futzed up, for sure. Still have enough to hunt with, but at that price, especially the SS, they’re a great all-around ammo, just like SV. At $8 or $9, not so much.

I've recently gotten into air rifles a bit. So it seems my CCI Quiet equivalent is a 25 cal PCP air rifle.

CCI Quiet:

40gr, 710 fps, 45 ft-lbs

50 yard accuracy? I have seen a few YT vids, accuracy doesn't look so good past 20 yards or so, but maybe some rifles shoot them better.

25 cal Avenger PCP rifle:

25.4gr, 900 fps, 46 ft-lbs

55 yard accuracy,

My old Marlin bolt action .22 shoots 5 shot groups you can cover with a dime at 30 yards with the CCI Quiets. Haven't shot them further than that and really have no need as I have a good stash of CCI SV and Mini mag for longer distances. The Quiets are A LOT more accurate in all of my rifles than the CB longs or shorts.

Good to about 30 yards, still probably minute of tennis ball. I have heard reports of the cci semi auto quiet being closer to the sv in accuracy and drop but havent verified myself

Email I received from CCI this morning,

"
When zeroed at 25 yards the Quiet 22 will have a drop of 23.6 inches at 100 yards and with the same zero on Standard Velocity you would have 8.7 inches of drop."

right this moment, on the CCI website, the Quite is available. 10 box max. $5.99 a box

I ordered 5 boxs. Web site said there were 960 boxes still on hand.

Sam,
Thanks, yeah I've been watching the site too. The RN Quiet Target is available. I'll probably buy a few to try, but it's the Segmented Quiet I really want.

I just looked at my records for standard velocity ammo that I've been using:

1. My CZ with a suppressor will go .174 at 25 yards for a 3 shot group with the CCI Quiet.

2. My Russian Biathlon will go .38 at 50 yards for a 5 shot group with the CCI Standard Velocity.

The Quiet does need to be placed well on squirrels to get a DRT as a body hit may times runs off with about a 10-15 yard sprint before the lights go out

The CCI SV is much more lethal at distances up to 50 yards with one shot stops however due to the noise increase without a can it has to be shot in selective areas.

Beyond those respective ranges the bullet drop is a big guess and for me usually wrong.

TC Contender with a suppressor will put 3 shots in a dime at 25 and I can here the hammer drop. Dotted the eye of a coon on the bird feeder at 20 yards last week from my bedroom window and my bride never even stirred.
