https://www.alaskasnewssource.com/2...anceled-hotel-reservations-upon-arrival/

They are suggesting all visitors "confirm" all reservations for hotels and car rentals, etc..

ALASKA is a "HARD COUNTRY for OLDMEN". (But if you live it wide'ass open, balls'to the wall, the pedal floored, full throttle, it is a delightful place, to finally just sit-back and savor those memories while sipping Tequila).

Its getting pretty tuff out there..

Here's part of a letter my buddy got from Great Alaskan holidays.

Dear Mr. xxxxxxxx
"Regretfully, we have been forced to cancel your reservation.

Pickup Date: Friday, June 18, 2021
Return Date: Sunday, June 27, 2021
Confirmation:

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to create significant disruptions to normal business operations here at Great Alaskan Holidays, as well as vacation and rental plans for our valued customers.

Here's the one I got....

Dear Mr. xxxxxxxx

There is a possibility we may have to cancel your upcoming reservation with the details below:

Pickup Date: Friday, June 18, 2021
Return Date: Sunday, June 27, 2021
Confirmation: xxxxxxxx

As of today, your reservation HAS NOT been canceled and is still scheduled. However, we are experiencing delays receiving our new fleet, and the floorplan you selected has been affected by these delays (28FP, 31FP, 32FP are delayed). Please visit our website and click the orange banner for more details about the delay, or click the link below.

Some other friends of mine finally found a car to rent in mid May they're paying $250 a day for it.

I made all of my reservation's back in December so it's not been to bad for me... yet!

Too many on the .gov tit still. Once the dole ends, things will improve.

My son works at the airport in Fairbanks and he told me that all of the rental cars that are there are booked solid through the end of the summer.

The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.

From the article:

"Stansbury said his clients that are affected by the last minute canceled reservations are angry."

Well, that might just provoke them a bit.

Alaska employs a lot of seasonal workers, some are college students from other countries. With Covid going on, a lot of those seasonal workers are not here. The other take away from the article is it's a bad idea to book through 3rd party sellers. I've had bad experiences with brokers like Expedia and Travelocity; and will no longer use them. They'll take your money but when there's an issue, good luck. My recommendation is to book directly through the hotel chain itself or the airline, that way you can hold them accountable and hopefully a better line of communication. And yes, there are a lot more folks sitting at home collecting free money, too.

Sometimes it might cost a little more, but I always book direct
