i have way too many older 94's laying around, i think there is enough i could possibly ruin one!

wonder what that 94 action would withstand pressure wise? i see JES can rebore to 38-55 or 375 but what about a 405? looks like a 405 runs about 46k and the 30-30 around 42k

is the rim diameter being a little bigger gonna cause issues if itll withstand the pressures?

A .405 seems FAR too long to fit in a model 94. It's designed for an 1895 which is a much bigger rifle.

Not sure what you mean by older. How old is older for the one you are selecting for rebore? The 405 Win has a COAL of 3.175”. As stated previously it’s way too long for a 94 (2.6” COAL) or even an 86/71 at 2.8” COAL.

444 Marlin is close to the 405 in ballistics and the 450 Marlin exceeds, both work fine in modern 94 actions (post 1978 or so). Same for the 375 Win.

Don’t know if your 94 selection and barrel has enough meat to rebore to .429” or .458”. If they’re older than 1965 and showing good condition, they’re worth keeping the way they are in my opinion based on return investment.

JES offers the 405 JES based off the .444 case, however he doesn't list it as an available rebore for the M94, only the Marlin. The .38-55 is a natural in the 94.
I'm with Rossimp above though, don't molest the pre-64s unless they're in bad shape

Remember that the .375 WCF was chambered in specially-strengthened M94 actions. Too, M94 receivers have varied metallurgy, from relatively mild cast iron to forged steel to sintered steel and back to forged. Depending on the age and metal used - even if it fit - I wouldn’t use the .405 WCF chamber. In the 1970s I sent a forged M94 in .30-30 to P. O. Ackley for reboring to .38-55. I’ve never regretted that move.
