I think it comes down to intent and use.
There's nothing wrong with security procedures. I'd be all for releasing big scary tarantulas and scorpions into the cases overnight if someone wanted good little watch dogs. The problem I see is if there's Big Bro legislating it to shops and shows as a requirement. Then there's use. What do they intend to do with the recordings? Are the BigBro Cali going to use use for a registration like they did a while back with the rifle requirements?

It's a legitimate reason to video for security purposes but when compelled by law it's clearly intended to intimidate or threaten those who choose to exercise their second amendment.

Right. Designed to have a chilling effect on those who might otherwise like to exercise a guaranteed right.

I have assumed that for the last twenty years every gun counter in Sportsman's, Cabellas, Walmart, and essentially all but the smallest of local Mom and Pop LGS have been videotaped. All the cash registers are and have been for years. Yep. Most gun stores do to prevent shoplifting.

The real problem is that gun buyers will avoid patronizing SJ gun stores.

Not sure I haven't been in a gun shop without a camera in over 10 years. Heck, 95% of the stores and restaurants out there seem to have at least one camera around.....just loo, typically by a doorway, the counter/register or the kitchen area. Like it or not, that is reality and you cannot avoid them.
If I owned a business, I'd install them....biggest reason is you cover your back when falsely accused of something. My word (as a business owner) against yours means I will probably lose in the court of public opinion; BUT, if you can show you are 100% right (especially right away), you have a better chance of winning.....in court and public opinion.
