Just ordered a barrel for my G2! I love this little round. Inherited a Marlin Model 62 Levermatic at 16 when my Dad passed - this rifle was my Dad's primary deer slayer in Florida with dozens and dozens of deer to it's credit. Every deer I shot with it hit the dirt immediately. I get all the reasons it died out and am glad that there is still ammo available. Thinking to get into reloading at some point but have just never taken that step.

Looking forward to having some fun with the pistol! Hunting included.

Anybody else enjoying the 256?

".25-20 MAGNUM"!

Did you see the article on MGM barrels for T-C rifles in the latest "Rifle" magazine? Lots of stuff there for single shot nuts....

256 WM is one of my favorites! I have a 10" Contender barrel and a Marlin 62.

It's my go-to for handgun hunting for javelina and I've killed a half dozen foxes and coyotes with it while calling. I won a few IHMSA trophies with it too in Production class many moons ago! I use 60gr factory ammo in the Levermatic and handload 87gr spitzers in the Contender for hunting and used the same load for silhouettes.

It's easy to load for and with the Encore you can obviously use any type of bullets. One day I'd like to get a Ruger Hawkeye but don't know if I'll ever bite the bullet on the cost!

That's awesome Ed, I'll be getting some heavier loads (75-87 gr) from Reed's Ammunition and plan to deer hunt this fall with the Contender (also a 10" barrel) - can't wait!

Morning, supper cool!!! Had a 62 lever matic once, (don't ask) !! Shot some ground hogs but mostly used it for coyotes one winter. It does put them down though even the 75gr flat point. Wish sierra had made that 70gr pointed bullet back then. I'm surprised ammo is available. Like hens teeth up here in Canuckastan. I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, you can make cases from 357 mag. Nickel cases for hunting loads, brass for ???? Anyway, have fun with it, wish I had mine back again. I just sold a Marlin 62 in 256 Win Mag to help repay the household for a Cooper 21 I couldn't pass on. I still have a 10" Contender in 256 and it's my favorite barrel. Its accurate with everything from 60 Hornady FNs to lead 86 grainers. Unlike the Marlin its not picky about brass. I just anneal and resize Starline 357 brass and go. Doing that with the Marlin and I would have to punch out 60% of the fired brass with a cleaning rod until I turned the necks.

I currently shoot a Marlin 62 and a T/C Contender 10 inch in .256 Win and used to own (and wish I had back) a custom Martini Cadet in that cartridge. If I were going to build a custom .256, I'd take a Marlin Model 1894, convert it to pistol grip and put a 24 inch octagon barrel on it with a tang peep and a quality front sight with a Redfield Sourdough blade. I actually inquired of a gunsmith about having one done, but the cost was more than I could afford at the time and I'm in the vault contents reduction mode at this stage of my life.

I had forgotten about the Martini Cadet rifle conversion. I had actually considered having that done long ago. Wish I still had the 32-20 version I stupidly let go! I like the idea of the Marlin 1894 too.

Years ago I had a Single Shot Ruger Hawkeye in .256 WinMag as well as a Universal Ferret M1 Carbine chambered in 256WM. The novelty wore off after awhile and I sold them.

Run it up, until you blow it up, then back it down a bit.

Anybody who wants to do a .256 on a Martini Cadet, talk to me. I have a Cadet with a .32-20 chamber I'm letting go of.

I know this is an older thread but I just found out I am going to be getting a Ruger Hawkeye in .256 win mag.
I will be looking for reloading data. I believe I will be getting plenty of brass and the dies as well.

I have a Marlin 62, 10” Contender and a Ruger 77/256…..just ordered some Hammer 67 grain bullets to try on Turkeys and maybe a deer if accuracy and penetration/expansion tests work out. Really like this little round and so far very/extremely accurate in the firearms I have.
