The lands have beveled edges down to the grooves, not sharp cut straight edges. With an odd number of lands there is never a land across from another land but a groove.
I would have got him too but a Dad Blam snow flake hit me in da eye....

I've had a Gen 1 5R milspec .308 with 24 inch barrel for more than 10 years now. Like someone said above, they seem to be throated long and mine doesn't like many factory loads. Most factory loads are in the 1"-1.25" range. But I've killed several deer with it shooting 1.25" with 180 gr federal fusion loads. My handloads, mostly with 168 Nosler Ballistic Tips and Hornady Amax have been tack drivers averaging 1 inch at 200 yards. But I load them to 2.810" OAL. I currently have mine in a Magpul Hunter stock and like it better than the stock it came in. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/gallery/80/full/163808.jpghttps://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/gallery/80/full/163809.jpg

I had one that I cut back to 22" and put in a Mag-Pul Hunter stock. It wasn't really a tack-driver but it did like the 155 Scenar well enough.
Now with even more aplomb

My Gen 1 barreled action is in the LTR stock you sold me. Much handier that way, and still fine on the bench.

Well I’ll have to keep looking since I lost the auction. But, all is well. I bought this one from Remington725. It’s a 223. Swapped stocks. Repainting it in FDE with black web. That is, unless someone wants it

I can't recall the year, but the AMU team members kicked ass at Camp Perry, shooting, guess what? 11 twist barrels. And as usual, whenever there appears to be the slightest "edge" in competitive disciplines due to equipment advances, everybody jumps on board until a new "magic pill" is discovered. 11 twist dominated High Power until the wunderkids came along with the 5.56 very tight twist spaceguns and kicked ass. In less time than it takes to tell it, the .308 was dead as Roy Clark except for Palma. The 11 twist was extensively tested at Aberdeen, and the decision was made to go with Dan Lilja, IIRC, for a small truckload of barrels...which won. The rest is history. What was not understood at the time (maybe my memory fails me here) that sum ting wong with the calculations and the 11 twist also brought home the bacon with 200's and 210's. Who knew.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

What is 5-R? 5 Groove? or what?
5 Groove Rifling. 5 grooves and a type of canted land rifling form.

The reason for the 11.25" twist is that the US Army specified it for the M24 sniper rifle, to better stabilize 175gr Sierra Matchking bullets for the 7.62x51 Nato (308 Win) used in M118LR ammunition. The US Marine Corps used a 12" twist in their M40A1 through M40A6 sniper rifles and they never had any issues stabilizing M118LR ammunition. If you want it, buy it. No reason not to.

Bad choice by the military. Brian Letz kicks ass at 1000 yards with a 9 twist 308 win. For long range faster twist increases BC

This Remington 700 rifle is chambered in 308. 5R barrel twisted 1:11.25 Why that rate of twist in a 308? Tell my why I don’t need this. I’m getting weak…. The bolt handle might fall off . . . . .
I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.
