How’s everyone like the Henry single shot 3030? I got one I have not shot. Put a new dnz mount on and a leupold vx3i 1.5-4x20 scope. I want to shoot it but just haven’t had the time. Got a lot of money tied up in it.
How do they shoot? Good? Bad? 50yard gun?

The .308 I had was as accurate as the average bolt gun, but that’s without any special load development, only handloads I made up for something else. On its way back from the recall, it was damaged and groups went to Hell. They replaced the barrel, but I sold it before I messed with it any more. Been thinking about another, but would probably go with a different cartridge because I have another .308; maybe a .357.

I wouldn’t pick one for PRC or benchrest, but based on my experience and reports here, I think they’re an excellent value- good shooters and the nicest wood you’ll find at anywhere near the price. If yours isn’t one of the ones produced with the improved trigger, get the recall work done. It really makes the trigger better, and eliminates the safety hazard. The work and shipping are free, and they will even send you a shipping carton.

Pappy, how can you tell if a rifle has had the updates made to it?

I wish I would have picked up the old New England Arms Handi Rifle in 30/30... with the black polymer stock..

they were $100 at gun stores around here....

I loaded some ammo for a range manager who had one...who wanted to hunt Black Bear with it...

Old load I developed long ago.... 35 grains of W 748 and a 220 grain Round Nose bullet...at 2100 fps.

it certainly had no problem putting down a 400 plus pound bear, on the spot...

If you aren't an experienced handloader, don't try that load at home...

it certainly worked but kicks a might more than your average factory 30/30 load.

There's a tiny dimple inside the trigger guard behind the trigger. Might be a -2 on the box for the model number. Supposedly, all made in 2020 and after are updated.

Dreamer!

Where would you find ammo or brass?

The .350 gets very close with 180s.

Sent my beautiful walnut Henry Single Shot 357 back to Henry for the recall in as new condition, since I had put only 5 rounds through it. When I received it back the forearm checkering had several points knocked off both sides. It looks as though someone handled it roughly putting it in a clamp (I’m guessing). The figure in the walnut is the main reason I said “I’ll take it” the moment I saw it at the LGS.
Henry offered to ‘remedy’ it but I figured sending it back again would just be another risk of damage.
Happy with the gun otherwise.
I’m tempted to ream it to MAXimum but will probably leave it as is and just shoot it.
I put it in the safe after seeing the damage and haven’t pulled it out again.
Gun rash happens.

My .243 has a great trigger and is shooting 1.5” groups (@100) with < 20 rounds through it. A little more break in and I expect the groups to tighten up a little.

I have the henry single shot in 30-30 and except for being too heavy for an old guy. i like it a lot, Sent it back for trigger update and they noticed the stock was cracked. they replaced the stock. I also had a 308 with a cracked stock. they replaced that as well. It shoots well with the pointy bullets I load for it. If anyone needs a spare stock, I have two.
