While trolling a pickers choice type shop on the coast this week, I ran across this little Kabar knife.
From what I could learn online, it may be a model 1266 or 1226? A bird / trout knife.

I gave them $20 for it. Overall about 7” long. Blade is 3 1/2”.
The stamping on both the blade and sheath is “Kabar”..... not Ka-bar.

any idea of exactly what I found here?
I intend to put it back to work in the field.

I would be torn between carrying it and putting it in a drawer to protect it.

I always love to see how older knives like that were sharpened.

It is like finger nails on a chalkboard to see their "technique" back then as it still appears on the blade.

It looks like his best effort involved a file..... at least he didn’t take it to a grinder....

I refaced the angle at 20* with my Lansing sharpener, much like Dan308 shows in his video.
It’s going to take some more work, but I know I’m going to get the edge I want.
I have a trip to Crane Prairie, for some cranebows in a day or two. I put it to work there.
