The 06 is all I need now! Fine looking rifles, and I've mentioned a Kimber or Cooper recently, but no need. I'm a 62 years of nothing but blue steel and walnut, and 10glocks Supergrade in 06 is exactly what I'd buy if I ever buy a new one. Thats a rifle!

Isn't that the Ph-ucking truth.

When I joined the Fire, my only 30-06 was a Rem 710.

At 55 years of age, I thought I had also.

Now, closing on 70 in a few months, depending on one's outlook I am either "up" to four or "down" to four.

I/ve a Sauer 200, Blaser K95, Merkel 141 double, and my favorite for the last couple years.......

Blaser R93 Stutzen, 30-06, with a side of 9.3 x 62

and what tickles me most is that I'm shooting 180 gr. Cor-lokts (that were given to me) out of all four!

ya!

PS: BTW, a 20" barrel works fine on an '06

Generations of hunters hunted their entire lifetime completely satisfied with the .30-06, never feeling the need or desire for anything else. Fast forward to current times with more disposable income than in the past and it's a completely different story. I'm happy with my .30-06 although I have a .35 Whelen, I can't think of any game in North America that those two rifles wouldn't handle.

Absolute truth...

Gotta be careful claiming to "need" just one round. Good way to lose one's Loony card...

For the last 100 years, there is an entire industry built on the idea that the '06 is lacking right? It's never been clearly explained just exactly what it lacks...but they keep trying, and I guess some of us keep buying the latest and greatest. And that's ok, we got the disposable income. I'm just as guilty as anyone, I have had romances with almost every military cartridge adopted since the late 1800's...with the glaring omission of the 5.56. After 55 years of experiments, nothing really stands out as superior to the '06 by any measure.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Yep. Put a gun to my head and I could easily get by with just an '06. Wouldn't want to, but could.

.30-06's dominate in my accumulation of bolt guns - Springfields, Mausers, and Winchesters (mostly Springfields) - and get worked with quite a bit. From mouse fart light cast bullet loads through full snort jacketed loads and everything in between gets shoved through them; about as versatile a cartridge that a fella could want.
