While out and about today. I came across an 1895 win in 405 win.The rifle is listed as used, but it appears to be unfired. No handling marks, nothing. It needed a once over with an oily rag.
I bought this believing that the case hardened receiver is a premium, @ $925:OTD. How'd I do?

Sounds like you did well. How does it shoot?

When you have the time, a picture would be nice.

Well I just got off the phone with Hornady. No 405 win cases to be sold to the public as they are needed for production. No 405 win ammo on the production schedule for at least 120 days.

Yes, we need more .405 shooters so Hornady will make more ammo runs.

I guess I'm trying to figure out if you purchased an Antique Original Rifle, or a modern Firearm!

I'm thinking this is a modern Rifle! Don't know!

Pics would be great!

The dies were sold, and Huntingtons will only take phone orders and they have not updated their page. I gave them a call , no joy.

I'm still figuring out what I bought, New old stock. The rifle is case hardened with a gold trigger, blued with checkered stocks. Serial # ######TEX95.

I work this magic on a kindle, pictures are not yet in the skill set of an analog man in the digital age.

Gojoe,
Miroku/Winchester did make a Texas or Texan 1895 that had off color metal and maybe wood. A friend of mine had one and it looked the same as my Miroku made 1895 .405.
I also have an unfired Safe Queen Deluxe 1895 .405 -- here is a not-so-good pic taken with smart phone:

With the serial# ending in tex95 it's possible I have the Texas Special Edition, . Two weeks ago there was a 95 on gunbroker that cdnn had up for auction. In a photo comparison it's the same style rifle I have. I had a friend print the auction photos.
I wonder when and how many were made? I made inquiry about the rifles box, they are still searching for it and I may know more next week.
This is all going into the desision, sit on it for a few years or just shoot it.

There is a bigish gun show next month, I'm going. It will give me a chance to buy ammo, components, the stuff is hard to find. I ordered Woodleighs last night during the hour they were in stock at midway. I have some brass on the way thanks to good Karma from a member here. And I can shoot my 375 H&H in the mean time.

Gojoe,
It just occurred to me that I hunted RSA a few years ago with a man from Maine who owned a gun store there. He and his wife were avid hunters and fellow members of the Leverguns.com forum as am I. I cannot remember where in Maine he lived, but will check over on Leverguns to see if I can locate him.
That was the trip when I took this critter with my 1895 .405:

Okay, now I understand, the Winchester/Browning, 1895 Commemorative Rifle.
Yeah it's probably the Texas Edition, specially produced Rifle like you say.
Those are Attractive Tributes to the old Originals, as your showing!
The Model 1886 was also produced with some Engraving, and Both were adorned,
With some Gold Animals and the Grey coin silvered matte finish!

Browning Original Patent, bought by T.G. Bennet, Oliver Winchester's Son in Law!
Winchester went on to produce the Famous 1895, 405 Caliber Rifle, that Teddy Roosevelt made Famous!

I contacted Hornady last yr before Covid they had no intentions to run 405 brass, said" the demand wouldn't warrant tooling up again unless they were assured of orders over 2K in sales" ..Good luck it's very pricey when you do find some..
