I’m interested in buying a no longer produced Barrett Fieldcraft. The chambering and barrel length that I’m looking for is somewhat of a unicorn with a threaded barrel. I found a good deal on the barrel length and chambering that I want but it’s non threaded and .585 dia at the muzzle. The factory rifles that were threaded have more steel at the muzzle for the threading and shoulder. Would it be possible for a good smith to add a “collar” fitting to the muzzle of a stainless barrel so that it could take 5/8x24 threaded suppressor and not be cost prohibitive Vs. having to rebarrel it?

There’s a guy in the classifieds that sells a nice looking 1/2x28 to 5/8x24 adapter. Have it threaded 1/2x28 and put one of those on it.

Thanks for the heads up. I’d rather have it more “factory correct” but I might go that route. It’d no doubt be a lot easier and less money if the other option is even doable at all.

I think you need close to .620 to do "shoulderless" 5/8 threads with the collar. 0.560 will do 9/16 threads with a collar. Or so a little Google-Fu tells me.

.660 will do 9/16 with a shoulder, which is what Silencerco recommends on sporters that can make .660, as it is stronger than a 1/2 inch setup.
