I've been looking at new muzzleloaders. Two that seem to keep coming up are the CVA Optima v2 and the Accura v2. If you own either, how do you like it? How is the accuracy?

I own an Optima V2 and I sighted in my cousin's Accura Mountain Rifle. They shot the same sized groups with the same loads. I know that is a small sample, but for me the price difference says Optima V2 for me. My Optima V2 is the stainless model. If buying today, it would be the Nitrided version.

The decision was easy for me. I found my Optima V2 LR stainless with thumbhole stock on "clearance" a couple years ago for 184 dollars. Its a tack driver with Blackhorn 209 and Harvester 45 cal 300 gr Scorpion PT Gold bullets using the short black sabots,(H5045SB)

That was exactly my load for several years. Currently using the .44 cal 300 grain Scorpion PT Gold bullets in the short green sabots. They shoot a bit flatter.

I bought my Optima Ve straight from CVA with my Hunter Ed Instructor certificate, but your closeout price was better. I always check Walmart after the season. They don't want them hanging around long after the season ends. I missed out on a couple of the Wolf models for $80 each a couple of years ago.

I bought my Optima seven years ago and its been a dandy deer rifle for me. Many bullets were tested for accuracy and killing power. The 295 grain PowerBelt works best for me. I zero for 100 yards.

I have the accura V2. Deadly accurate. I have my trigger set very light and that really helps groups size. Learn to weigh you charges not volumn measuring if you want accuracy. Nitrite coating with camo stock is really tough not shinny in the woods. I got some big 8pt and 10pt whiletails on the wall to prove how effective they are. Easily a 250 yard rifle; 300 yds is lobbing the bullet a lot. Also less ftlbs energy.

Choose well regrets are unforgiving when it comes to past mistakes and I wish I would have bought a .........
