55 grains of IMR4350 under a 130 is a classic for the 270.

My pre-64 Model 70... 270 loves 130 gr Partitions pushed by 54 gr of IMR 4350.

Small groups. Dead deer.

I've use 54 H4350 and the 130 Barnes TSX; muzzle velocity of about 3050- 3075 in a Cooper with 22" barrel. Very accurate and a good elk load.

I found my 270 to react well to RL17.

Now trying out RL26 with 150 grainers. Seems to be doing well so far.

That's all I've ever used. 55.0 IMR 4350/CCI200 and just change the bullet. It's worked in my A-bolt stainless stalker with the 130 Sierra GK, the 130 Speer Grand Slam and the 130 Hornady SST. All have been sub MOA, but I've stuck with the Grand Slam.

beretzs, That is plenty good for hunting.. I know in today's world of Berger bullets, etc. that isn't considered great.. For some it might not be good enough, but it will kill all the antelope, deer or elk she is likely to shoot in her life time.. It is an older bdl .270 I l put a 6x Leupold on and loaded some once fired ww cases... When I was young all my rifles HAD to shoot under an inch.. In those days 60 years ago, that was the goal of all riflemen.. Now I find I even worry less about group size.. Haven't missed getting my buck in almost 50 years.. Elk are even bigger targets.. Shooting groups used to be fun for me, I would spend hours at it.. Now it is just so much work.. I feel you are a younger shooter and that is lots of fun.. Enjoy.. I still love hunting.. Time changes one I guess..

Nope, I’m with you you WCH, if a rifle consistently does that at a good speed I don’t find the need to monkey with them either. 270 with a 130 at over 3000 is a good one, even today.

Sounds like a great set up.

Beautiful thing about a good 270 in my opinion. Most folks can really get after one and not get hurt by them.

I have owned many 270 rifles that shot really well.

I tried about 10 powders, using 140gr Accubonds. Best power I found was RL23. How ever there were 2 others that deserve mention.

Norma MRP just as accurate as RL23 with 140gr Bullets, but I can get a little more speed with MRP when I use 150gr Nosler Partitions.

How ever it is not temperature stable. For out and out most speed RL26 is the name of the game. Just my 2 cents. I,m sure there are others.

I settled on 58.0 gr. H4831SC with a 130gr. TTSX @3.250" and a Fed 210. Bringing the Kimber Mountain Ascent to Alaska for a little sheep excursion in 12 days.

That should work just fine. I’ve settled on IMR 4831 and 150 No’s ABLR for my caribou hunt this year.

H4831SC with 130's and especially 150's has always worked well in my Mark V. N560has been excellent with 130's as well. Good luck on your sheep hunt post results when you can.

Good luck and Shoot Straight Y'all
