I got my rifle back today and looked for the LBC. It does not have one that I can find.
There are two stampings on the barrel. One is the number 16 inside acircle and the other one is the letters sp inside a diamond.I have no idea what this signifies.

A little candlelight, a nice meal, a blanket stretched out by the lake, my idea of a successful date with my Savage.

1971 is generally too late for a date code. 1949 to 1970 have them. The 16 in a circle is an assembly stamp, the SP stands for "Savage Proofed" - meaning it was test fired at the factory.
