I know, read all the run don't walk away from this rifle. Maybe it was the gold letters on the barrel (factory?). I ran a clip through it and everything seems ok..
No tang crack, really nice wood, fancy grip cap, ugly red recoil pad, blued lever, looks just like one in Royal's book so must be factory. Anyway it cost less than an ordinary E model. The serial is L0013xx, so kind of in the middle of the run. Also has ordinary pressed checkering. It's missing the rear sight and I am looking to replace it. Ebay has the three parts to the Williams Guide Open Sight (WGOS) but I can't find a complete sight made just for the 99C. The base comes in three sizes, small, medium, and large. I miked the barrel at the sight and it looks like I need the large base. Any help would be appreciated. [Linked Image]

If I remember right, we saw 2 different Williams sights on Spanish 99C's at one of the Fests while comparing them. One was a single screw, the other had 2 screw? Rick probably will remember better.

Mine has a Williams that is .625" wide at the rear of the sight, and 1.3" long. Eyeballing the height looks like .65"?

According to the Stroebel book that would be the small base, that would get me started. My barrel is drilled and tapped with two holes for my rear sight. Thanks for the info.

If you slide off the upper section , the lower section should be stamped with the size in the center of the slide area. Corrected; My .250 Savage 99CD (not a Llama) has an L stamp and 2 screws. Each size is for a barrel o.d. range. The upper sliding portion (with the sight notch) came in a few different heights.

I think I will just put a scope on it and not worry about a rear sight. Old eyes, quit using iron sights long ago. Thanks for the help.
