Just wanted to drop a line and see if any of you fellas have ever loaded this particular bullet, and if so, your thoughts?

I'm soon going to try working up some loads for a Ruger American Ranch using Reloder 7, but I'd be interested to hear anyone's experiences with the projectile in general, including store bought ammo.

No, I have not used it, but I have thought long and hard about loading it up and trying it on a black bear. I’m interested in what you find out.

That makes two of us Hudge! I don't have access to a chrony, but I'll at least document how the load workup goes and accuracy if I can.

Did Barnes make them with those velocities in mind?
If they did, I'd say go for it.

You didn't use logic or reason to get into this opinion, I cannot use logic or reason to get you out of it.

It says "7.62x39" on the box of bullets up there so thinking that's a yes although I am curious as to just what the low end would be.

I used it to take a javelina, worked fine. 26 gr H4198 for a chronographed 2300 fpf from a 16" barrel AR.

Accuracy was OK at 2 MOA 5-shot groups with a 4x prism scope. Got 3-shot 1" grouping when I tried a barrel deresonator. Really did make a difference.

I have a CZ bolt action 7.62 X 39 and it is very accurate with almost every type of ammo. I've tried. Those Barnes bullets are great and it's good to know that they are meant for this caliber. I need to find some since I plan on doing some short range deer and hog hunting here on my property. I have RE 7 but not H4198. Do have IMR 4198 though. I bought a pound of CFE BLK recently and it looks like it would be great in the Russian round. Anyone use it? Share some experience and data if you have some please.

Yeah, I'd think they would have been lighter to make the best of the velocity limitations..

I worked up a load for my AK Pistol/11.5" barrel. Tried a bunch of powders, settling on CFE Black. My load, below book max, gives 2358 fps. Used new 0x fired PPU brass and CCI 200 primers. Runs flawlessly.

Really interested to hear that, Alan! Man that must be smoking through a 20" barrel. Wonder how that bullet holds up at speed. Is it that much higher than the start load?

Change of plans here. I have them worked up to as high as the Barnes manual says for RL7 but I'm shooting them from a Yugoslavian SKS. Getting 2.5-3" 3 shot groups, which I can live with, me and those irons. Will take Bambi from a blind for sure.

My thoughts exactly!
Maybe 110?
As long the threshold is large for low velocity, then it should work.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

It would be kind of weird to advertise them expressly for a caliber that was driving them too slow though, wouldn't it?
