My books are apparently too new. Does anyone have or can point me to where to get data. I am specifically looking for 30-06 150g jacketed load data.
Thanks

Unless you have some of the powder which has been discontinued several years ago, data won't do you much good.

A most helpful reply. Good to know the data has not become extinct.

I used to use SR 4759 in reduced loads for .35 Whelen, a few years ago they were only producing it in small lots from time to time. Guess there was insufficient demand to justify that and it was discontinued. Since being discontinued I have been using Unique in .35 Whelen cast bullet loads, it does a great job.

I tried SR 4759 in the two 30-30's I have. Results were ok but I have other powders my boolits and rifles like much much better.
I also have used cast in a old 30-06 with dismal results.
I have been itching put the 30-06 back in service, but with reduced jacket loads. My shoulder will not tolerate full on loads nowadays so SR 4759 may fill my reduced load jacket bullet goal. Red Dot and 2400 are also in the powder locker for testing and I might be able to obtain some AA5744. Unique seems to be unicornish in my part of the world.

Check out the first edition of the LEE reloading manual, it has a good section on reduced load development. You may find info there that will be helpful in getting your "old .30-06" to shoot better.

Thanks. I will.

Edit: I just looked and wow they want a king's ransom for the print version. I did find a downloadable copy and yes it does contain a good amount of reduced load info but it is unfortunately devoted to cast shooting. Which I'll keep in mind for my future 30-30 adventures.

My old to me '63 Rem 700 30-06 with a factory 20" barrel and steel butt plate, is headed down a reduced jacketed bullet path.

Very nice and the higher velocity SR 4759 data will come in handy.
Thank you.

I got one inch 3 shot groups using SR4759 along with the Sierra 125 gr HP in my Marlin Glenfield.

For all who have shown an interest both on and off list, using SR 4759 for reduced loads with jacketed bullets in a 30-06, I found this:

https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...tthread/Board/11/main/666122/type/thread

Noticing IMR 4227 was also listed (and I have some) in Swifty52's contribution above, IMR 4227 could also get me close to the desired velocity.

Gone now, but SR4759 was my favorite powder for cast bullet loads in my Trapdoors.

The back of this IMR PDF has rifle info. I think this is the latest one of these guides.

There's a number of loads for 30-06 including with 4198, SR4759 etc.

I'm still using 4759 in a lot of stuff, entirely with cast bullets though. .32-40, .30-30, .30-40, & .30-06 to name a few. When word went out that it was being discontinued I scrambled and laid in over 20 pounds. I guard it like the Crown Jewels. I'm still finding some occasionally in my searches.

In .30-06's with cast, mainly in the 160-190 grain range, charges run between 18 and 24 grains depending on the rifle and bullet. Best accuracy for me tends to run toward the lower end of that spread, especially in '03 Springfields with good barrels such as Criterion and original Armory star gauged. A new White Oak barrel on a resurrected NRA Sporter (the only replacement barrel I ever found that matches the heavier contour of the Sporter versus the standard service rifle contour) for some reason won't perform with normal 4759 charges but sings with RL7. Go figure. The Style T bull barrel 03 target rifle adores 4759 so much that if push comes to shove I'll save the last of my stash for it exclusively.

I experimented with fillers long ago and rejected them as being superfluous with 4759.

Unique is ok but has never returned as good accuracy in my preferred velocity range as does 4759. Curse Hodgdon for discontinuing 4759!!

Well shoot, I was leaning towards bringing my 30-06, a 1963 Remington 700 with a 20" factory barrel, back to life with reduced jacketed bullets. Now, Mr Gnoahhh, you just might have swayed me to trying cast again. I'll, of course, look back over my notes but I don't recall the SR 4759 standing out among the loads I tried. I don't have much SR4759 but why not shoot it and since I recently acquired some RCBS 30-180 boolits. They were recommended for my 30-30 but I haven't tried them either. Have you tried any AA5744 as a substitute?

Btw, I have read many, many of your previous posts regarding shooting cast and found them most informative. Thank you.

Please don’t call him “Mister”; he’s difficult enough to deal with as it is.

I hate honorifics in general, especially that cutesy misuse of an honorific before a first name.

As for 5744, I have an unopened pound of it but haven't had a desire to try it since I have so much 4759 to use up. That, plus reports that have trickled in about gun blowups caused by it, which may or may not have been because of the powder, or because of handloader error that isn't admitted to. A couple of my Schuetzen buddies swear by it for breech seating .32-40, but for that I prefer 4227 (and 4759 for fixed ammo) because 4227 meters so much nicer when throwing charges at the shooting bench (utilizing one empty case for hundreds of shots).

Please pondon my apparent faux pas. I will endeavor to avoid such errors in the future and btw, I had to look it up. wink

I don't have any 5744 but was thinking of trying it simply because it is available to me. Otoh, I have plenty of 4227 and it did produce a few promising loads in my 30-30. Thanks for the tips.
