IMR 4064 has been my go-to powder for 150 grain pills in 30-06. IMR 4064 consistently gives me the best accuracy/velocity at 2925 fps with 150 grain pills.

IMR 4064 is no-where to be found for me but Accurate 4064 is available at many online retailers.

What experience do ya'll have with Accurate 4064 in 30-06? I have read Accurate 4064 measures easier than IMR 4064 but beyond that I haven't seen any direct comparisons between the two.

What about other options? I have tried IMR 4166, IMR 4895 but always go back to IMR 4064.

It is rare, but IMR-4064 is sometimes available online.

Other options include Accurate 2520 (often available, ball powder) and Reloader 15 (more scarce than IMR-4064).

How poorly did IMR-4166 and IMR-4895 do as a replacement in your 30-06?

A4064 has done outstanding for me, first in 30-30 and now in 30-06! Its the most consistent and accurate powder I've used. Got a 30-06 while back, started working up few loads, and have settled upon A4064= 52g with a 150 Speer @ 2810fps, and stopped well short of a max load. Shot several 2-3 shot groups at 3/4" at 100yds, and 3 shots= 1 3/16" @ 200yds last time I shot. Was getting velocity spreads of from 8fps to 20fps while working loads. I'll always have some A4064 from now on!

I have two benchmarks for 150 grainers in my '06. Nothing pushing the envelope.....2900 fps and 1 moa. The best I could do with both IMR 4166 and 4895 was just under 2 moa above 2900 fps... with Interlocks and Hot Cores in a 22" barrel (late 70's 700 BDL).

I also have plenty of RL16 and H4350 I use with heavier bullets. Gonna use them on the 150's and see how it goes before buying anything else.

Those are very reasonable requirements. You can’t argue as sometimes some rifles are pickier than a kid when it comes to what they like or dislike.

RL-16 is definitely worth trying….if you have plenty.

RL-16 is extremely hard to find in my experience.

IMR-4451 is worth trying as well. As is Varget

Back to a simple answer. I have been buying powder under Trump where and when available...and normally purchase a lot of that in 8 pound containers..

Got plenty of IMRs 4064 and a good supply of AA 4064.. both are great powders, in about any application...

4064 from Accurate is easier to use in cases in the 22 caliber range, 223, 22.250, and has proven a good powder from my 6.5 Grendal and the 17 Fireball.
just passes thru those littler holes easier, than IMR's granules... in an 06, it isn't an issue...

I don't buy into all of these newer latest greatest powders, preferring to use what's been around for a zillion years

I also prefer powders in the mid range burn range vs the slower ones like 4350 etc...

either 4064, you are getting an accurate powder either way... don't worry and go out and get your game animal with confidence..

I’m happy to see this thread. Three lbs of AA4064 became available locally a few weeks ago and I grabbed it hoping to use it in a Garand. I need the insight of those who have used it for their M1.

You may want to give AA2520 a look. Accurate powders data shows AA2520 in 30-06 with 150 grain results in the 2960 to 2970 fps range. It is a powder that meters well. I have used in 308 win and 8x57 Mauser with heavier 180 gain bullets and it gave good results and accuracy. Sorry I don't own a 30-06 rifle, and can't give you any experience there. But I did reload for my buddies pre-64 Win model 70 in 30-06, but my data shows those 30-06 reloads were all done with Varget and H-4895 powders.

Accurate 4064 is a different powder that IMR 4064, they share a similar name and that's about it.

It may work well for you and it may not, only way to tell is to test it yourself in your rifle.
