Yesterday afternoon I heard the dogs barking at the back fence. This little fawn was bouncing across the pasture with the doe running along behind. The fawn stopped to grab a snack before heading off into the woods.

They stay fat around here. We have at least one doe that will raise a fawn on our place each year, and we have had as many as 3 does with fawns.

Young fawns will remain curled up in one spot while their moms are feeding. You should look for it as they don’t move no matter how close you get. You can take great pictures of them.

That is a very healthy looking doe. Surprised she doesn't have a second or third fawn. Is that fawn small for this time of year where you are at?

The rutting season is a little odd here in Alabama, because our deer herd was rebuilt using stock from all the country. We have deer rutting as early as November, and as late as February. I would guess that this fawn is from the later January-February rut.
