I’ve always thought these were pretty slick SAA clones, but never got around to buying one. (I did jump on a .357 version a few years back because the price was right, but sold it without ever firing it because, well, it wasn’t a .45.)

I don’t do CAS, but was curious if anyone here has experience with an Evil Roy in .45 LC. Do they shoot as good as they look and feel? Hold up well? Accurate? Any known issues?

Thanks

I ordered one, and it was out of time, so the store returned it. They had a couple like that, so they steered me to a Ruger.
Im not making a generalization, but that is my ER story. I still kinda want one. I think there are two versions, and 4 click and a 3 click.

Was your out-of-time one a 3 click or a 4 click? Just curious.

It's hard to beat a Ruger, set up to run like a Colt. This photos shows the short stroked Ruger next to a Gen 3 Colt. The Ruger is faster. Notice the welded hammer for direct contact with the firing pen. No transfer bar here. Maybe not as safe as factory, but the way to go for competition. Those Rugers are really tough, harder to wear out than Colts or clones, IMO. There are CAS smiths that specialize in this type work.

I turned the barrels for absolute POI with 100 gr. .38 cal cast bullets over Clays. I filed the front sights so they both are dead on. Now, once set up like that you're stuck with that load. I had those 100 gr. bullets moving pretty fast, popping those targets with authority, no phart loads here.

You'll need an action wrench and barrel vice to rotate barrels. I have those tools and am not using them if anyone is interested, I'll figure what they're worth and make ya a good, discounted price if interested. Resin is used to prevent barrel slippage, scaring the bluing. It works.

How do you tell if a revolver is out of time? I recently purchased a Cimmaron Evil Roy in .357, one of the new styles with the "floating" firing pin that only engages with trigger fully depressed. It is certainly NOT 4 click authentic, more like 3 click. That did not matter to me. I haven't shot it yet, but I have to say it is easily the slickest action I have EVER tried in a revolver. I love the feel of it and the color case hardening look on the frame with the pretty bluing on frame and barrel. It has made me want to look for one in 45 LC, but I want an octagon barrel for the 45LC.
