Interesting scope mount. Is there any writing on it anywhere? Looks kind of like a Niedner but with G&H locking levers. German maybe?

Don't be too quick to pass judgement on that mount. It could turn an average rifle into a sleeper. At any rate it's several cuts above a period el cheapo Weaver mount, the scope that's in the mount not withstanding.

She is totally dealing with way to much and I know nothing bout these but what you can find online and it's all over the place. It's in really good condition and the serial number is 183931. If this is not ok posting here like this I'm truly sorry and if you could tell me where and how to post my questions I'd be very greatful

If I was selling that gun I'd talk to Tommy Guns and see what their program might be. They consistently sell for better than average money.

I used to have a very similar 1899.

It had two holes in the side . I had a customs
Picanty rail built for it.
I still have the rail. Would like to buy this one from you.
Pm me please.
Thanks

Bought a Savage99 action that was originally a 250 Savage early model. I purchased it with the attention of building a .358 on it. After reading several posts here I was told it couldn’t be done. I than called my Smith to confirm that it could be done as I’d been told it couldn’t be. He informed me that it had all ready been done. So either the info is incorrect, the Smith is wrong or I have a talented smith. I prefer to think the smith knows his business.

Ask your smith if he’s tried loading the magazine with 358 cartridges. It will work as a single shot just fine, the problem is with loading the magazine.

If he’s managed to turn a pre-900,000 serial number receiver into a 358 capable rifle, he’s very good.. and I’d hate to see your bill for the hours he put in. Loggah here had an early one altered, I think. Possible.. but not simple.
