Was supposed to go to the river to put lines in with my youngest son but something came up and he couldn’t make it. I checked my minnow traps and had an excess of bait. I typically only use jug lines if by myself but thought what the hell and through one of my ‘jump boxes’ holding s couple of trot lines in the boat. Long story short, I just got back from urgent care from getting a tetanus shot and antibiotics from digging a 5/0 SST hook from my thigh.

Yikes!

That's why they're called "trot" lines, you know: you end up trotting to the emergency room.

I know of a drowning associated with a trot line. A swimmer wasn't aware of a trot line that was stretched through a deep hole in the river and got tangled in it and drowned.

So many "canoeists on the rivers here in middle TN I would think trice about putting a trotline for that very reason

Ouch sorry to hear it.

I'd like to hear more about trot lines and jug lines and your style of fishing sometime. We were in SW Va/WVa/DC for the past week and whenever I saw fishermen I asked what they were fishing for and how. My best story is guys fishing in the Tidal Basin near the Jefferson Memorial, and as I was walking up to ask them, one of them reeled in a 25lb catfish! I think it was a blue cat, I haven't seen many of them, and they didn't know either. It wasn't a flathead, I do know that.
