If the democrat party has it's way we'll all be slaves. Yes They call it taxes. The power to tax citizens is the power to own the fruit of their labor. Just got a bill for four grand. However many weeks/ months that takes is slavery to those providing me with no goods or services. To a degree we are slaves in the sense that our properties have been stolen by the states. Now we are forced to pay a yearly rent or tribute to them. Same goes for transportation. There's half a dozen taxes on automobiles and fuel.. I've talked to dark skinned Americans who had a chip on their shoulder about "my" ancestors. The thing is that my ancestors never owned slaves. Some of them were from a country from which the term slave was derived. It isn't in Africa either. The Slavs were slaves. Here's some interesting history. https://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=41445

I think that it was benign relative to slavery in other societies. Like Aztecs slaughtered slaves by the thousands.

Speaking of Indian slave holders, the incredible career of “Crazy James” Vann, who starts out life as a Cherokee Warrior attacking the settlers in Tennessee and goes on to acquire plantations and more than 100 slaves, among the very weathiest men in the entire US at that time. Crazy James meets his end in a tavern brawl, age 46, at the hands of r Cherokees, said brawl possibly arranged by his sister. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_VannVann had a number of wives (at the same time). going against matrilineal Cherokee custom a significant part of his wealth goes to his son “Rich Joe” Vann. If you read the link note the lengths gone to recapture runaway slaves. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_VannIt was Rich Joe who got the contract to ship the Seminoles and Black Seminoles out to the Indian Territory. Like his father, Rich Joe died before his time, age 46. The occasion was a party with several guests aboard one of his paddlewheelers plying the Ohio River. Another paddlewheeler start to overtake them and a race ensued. An intoxicated Rich Joe tied down the safety valve on the boiler and stoked the flames higher. When the other boat continued to gain ground, Joe threw some entire fat hog carcasses to stoke the fire even hotter. At this point the Pilot, (who happened to be Black), dove overboard. Shortly thereafter the boiler exploded, several people were killed outright, others drowned after the explosion. The only identifiable part of Rich Joe recovered was his arm, found hanging in a tree some distance away, still clad in an expensive silk shirtsleeve. The knew it was Joe’s arm by the ring it wore.

Can I get reparations from the great State of Massachusetts???
I don't know about 'original', but about 85 years before the American Colonies became the USofA, residents of the Massachusetts Bay Colony took my 9th Great-Grandmother hung her by the neck until she was dead, and threw her body in a ditch to rot............
They said that she was a witch, but I don't believe in witches!

Truth is the USA treated their slaves better than any other country....
Years ago some blacks I worked with were bitching about racisum... fact is when questioned none could give me an example of anyone being racist towards them....racism is bull [bleep].
After I listened to them and shot down their every claim of racism they offered....I stood up and told them
"You fellers should stop all the whining and get down on your hands and knees and worship the white man for bringing you to America...if not for us you would still be living in mud huts foraging for grub worms....you fellers need to get over it."

Well Yeah. Any farmer worth his salt treats His livestock well, and that was how they were considered. Not condoning it, but that was the facts of life back then. miles

I had a similar experience. I worked with a black guy that had a pretty big chip on his shoulder, came from Massachusetts, parents professors, certainly upper middle class............. I said '...look, I don't want you to say thankyou! But aren't you better off as a result!?!?!?...' Crickets!

Like some of y'all were saying, those Indians were just murder with their slaves. The Comanche in 1820 were a large and powerful tribe. They would raid Apache villages in New Mexico, or Spanish settlements near San Antonio, or the American settlements in east Texas. All enemies were all treated equally. Five and six year old boys and girls who were captured, if they were tough enough, were taken back to the Comanche camp in north Texas and adopted into the tribe. A 21 year old female who was captured, had it about as bad as any person who has ever lived. She was a sex slave and would be raped by a half dozen warriors, night after night.
If she made it back to the village alive, she was a slave with fewer rights than a dog. She was forced to gather firewood, scrape buffalo hides, to do the dirtiest work around the camp. Every night banged by a half dozen warriors. And if a squaw got jealous because her husband was spending too much time with the new captive, the squaw would just cut the captive girl's nose off! Or maybe slice off one of her ears. Or a Comanche could just kill a captive adult, with no recrimination. The Comanche slave literally had fewer rights than a pet dog. There were at least a dozen 21, or 24 year old white girls who made it back to American settlements, who had their nose or ears cut off by Comanche squaws. No, you didn't want to be a slave of the Comanche.
And back in the year 800 AD, the Maya would have big ceremonies where slaves, captured in war, would be marched to the top of the pyramid. Laid down on the stone altar, on their backs, the priest cut the heart out of the living slave with an obsidian knife. The Maya would kill 500 slaves in a single day, and the gutters of the pyramid ran red with blood.
I am not making excuses for slavery of negros to pick cotton in Georgia, but, cotton picking slaves had it a lot better than some of the slaves in North America.

I’m pretty sure that American slaves in the US were the only slave population that ever increased by natural reproduction. That is that more slaves were born than were dying. In nearly every other instance of widespread slavery, slaves were treated so harshly that in order to maintain numbers large numbers had to be imported every year.

The Indians were treated badly by the the US Government. We essentially lied to them and stole from them. Took their way of life away.
On the other hand the US treated them a whole lot better than they treated each other. Where I live, we hear a lot about how the Sioux were mistreated. Perhaps rightfully so. But the Sioux were a hell of a lot worse to the Crow and other tribes. Tribes were constantly killing and stealing from each other.
The thing is, North America was going to be conquered by an outside power, and in a lot of ways, the natives here are fortunate who their conquerors are. How many other conquered nations are treated as well as they are currently?
I certainly understand that it would suck to look at all this land now that once belonged to your ancestors. On the other hand, spend some time at Pine Ridge and consider how much they care about the land. As things are now, we are probably too good to them for their own good and we are enabling a broken cycle.
We often look at things from a moral or Christian perspective, and rightfully so. But from a historical perspective, seeing the wrongs of the past and where the world is today, sometimes things happen for a reason and sometimes good comes from bad. I suspect that we all have ancestors from the past who were mistreated by some other group and that is how they ended up here. I don’t think Europe was always as genteel as it is currently.
One thing is for sure, not one of us here today has owned a slave or gunned down a bunch of native women and children in their winter camp. Nor is there a native born black who was ever a slave. And native kids have more opportunity available to them than my kids, if they so choose to take advantage of it.
There comes a point where you have to let go of the things that happened to you, even more so what happened to your ancestors, and take responsibility for your own life.

The original sin is millennials. Nope. Our parents and grand parents are responsible. They opened up the treasury to be looted. They are the ones that allowed the USA to form a Federal Reserve, allowed the USA to be drawn into 2 world wars, and established Social Security. SS and fiat money is now the sword the government and the central bankers hold. Without fiat money, wars fought with created money, and SS we would still be industrious and wealthy.

Or the conquered nations that were utterly destroyed. We don’t even know there names now. Or those that were forcibly assimilated and lost all aspects of their own culture. It hasn’t always been the case, but the US has been very generous and benevolent with the Indians for decades at this point.

but the US has been very generous and benevolent with the Indians for decades at this point. Yes we have, and it has proven to be to their detriment. As someone else mentioned Pine Ridge. Go there and see what socialism and guaranteed allowances will do for humans. Would have been far better to make them equal citizens forced to obey and conform to society
